[Pro] Add a blog

How do I add a page that is going to be a blog within freeway pro?

You cant do this easily - ie incorporate a Blog into a FW document.

A couple of alternatives are

1 - Create a BlogSpot page and design it to look the same as your FW created site using the Blogger Actions and use an iFrame to display it in your FW created page.

2 - Use a CMS like pulsecms.com that has a Blog component that can be incorporated into a FW page

Neither solution gives you a FW created Blog but both can look like it is. The Pulse solution runs on your server whereas the BlogSpot solution runs on theirs.

If you want to use Blogger, I’ve written up some instructions here: http://calebgrove.com/articles/blogger-template

I may install WordPress and have a link go to that and links on there go back to home. Not sure yet

That seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut!

lol, I rather have it all fluid instead of doing iframes and such. Something to think about

If you’re going install something like WP - or any CMS, big or small - simply for the sake of a blog then why not put the entire site under CMS control? You say you want to keep it all fluid, what better way to do that than keeping the entire site integrated within a single application, be it WP or any other system?

Otherwise what’s wrong with Blogger or some other hosted plan?

If i put the whole site through WP,it requires alot of coding, and i am no there yet. I like the idea with blogger but I don’t want it to be www.hgrantdesigns.blogspot.com. If I go with the wordpress through my server, it would be "Blog | H Grant Designs | Bergen County, NJ. I may not even go with the blog, not sure yet. I like the idea, but if it’s going to be alot of work for me to do, may not be worth it

Depending on the site requirements there are plenty of other CMS that don’t require a lot of coding. I believe Dave already mentioned Pulse for starters. There are a lot of very manageable CMS options.

Yeah, I saw that. I legit just know the basics right now, which is why I am leaning towards the wordpress way, because I know wordpress a little bit, rather not pay for it if i dont have to. My hosting has abilty to install wordpress. I have to figure it out if I decide to go with a blog.

… what do you expect from a “blog” - which function and purpose? What in your terms is a blog?

Basicly what i want to put on it is what i learn on daily basics, or how i deal with clients or what things are improving in the industry and how to keep clients, all that stuff.

A blog to me is basically where you can put all your thought in paragraph form that isnt a website. I help run a couple of sports blog’s and i write for some as well

Note about Pulse cms. For the latest version they’ve depreciated (is that the right word) the search on their blog element. In its place you can add a google search for the entire website.
A BIG minus as far as my latest website is concerned as it has a lot of old and now archived stuff which the google search looks at rather than the new blog content that contains (or will) the meat of the new site.

I have integrated a Blogger blog into my Freeway created site that does not have a URL that includes “blogger”. The blog’s URL is www.blog.[mysite].com. Have also found lots of useful tips in workarounds in using Blogger at www.southernspeakers.net.
Take a look at how the site I created integrates with Blogger at www.brockmanfamilyfarming.com. Note that the blog is the site’s home page, so my index page redirects to the the Blog. Also note that the Blogger template drove the design of the Freeway created site because Blogger dynamic views blog styles are not as editable by the user as the normal Blogger blog.

Hmm. I see what you did. I just am not sure if I like the whole I-frame feel with blogspot or blogger. I have to think about it. I may not do a blog, not sure

Ahh Sir I see.

Ahmm excuse me sir - just one last question.

Rather then talking and writing about, wouldn’t it be better to first add this knowledge into your existing page and install the blog later? SEO - just one part of your offered services - is not only done by sharing a youtube video (which is even reachable without you).

Looking forward to see what your blog offers, cause I’m curious in this things as well.

Cheers

A client of mine thought it would be a good idea to have a blog to introduce some of his ‘ramblings’, thinking people would rush to the website in the hope of seeing something new every time. I am trying to convince him that maybe all he needs is to set up a Facebook page with a link to it from his website.

I’ve several past clients who really, really wanted a blog/news page and as you indicated after a short time they stop adding content. Looks and feels bad.

good facebalk suggestion as long as they don’t set all the privacy settings that only allows for ‘friends’ to view, its happened.

Yeah, I know the pages aren’t the best. I put my site up to put it up. I am in process of redoing my site and this is one of the features I wanted to add, was the blog.

Yeah, I agree as far as a facebook page for your client. You don’t want his reputation to go down if his ramblings are taken wrong by the interwebs
