[Pro] adding video that works in most browsers

Hi all

I have added a short video to a site - I have followed freeway manual instructions such as - video must be mp4. encoded correctly, the page must be html 5 etc…

It works fine in safari and on ios but in firefox i get “video format or mime type is not supported” and ie it does not even appear.

I have assumed that html 5 video would be the best option for multi web browsers but after following the correct instructions it looks like it maybe outputting the video as quicktime ?

thanks
Steve

You need a fallback for FireFox - WebM

Read this thread - http://www.freewaytalk.net/thread/view/140258#m_140263

And remember that FWT has a searchable database and there are few questions that haven’t been asked before.

Ok thanks I can understand how frustrating it must get seeing the same questions repeated.

I have found that the best way to add videos is through https://vimeo.com/ streaming and using their PRO account so you can customise many of the video options. To get the best out of this service you need to pay, the PRO account is about 150€ + VAT per year if in the EU but it takes away a lot of the problems although there is a free option and a cheaper option also.

The PRO account allows you to only have the videos available on the domains you select (if you prefer) and hides them from other vimeo users (if wanted) so the vimeo side of things can be completely hidden from the user. This means you can upload movies and use them on different web sites if needed.

The videos appear to be compatible over all the browsers I have used, no need for plugins, the streaming makes the video presentation professional. Personally the 150€ per year is cheap when you take away the time used up in supporting video plugin issues and compatibility from clients along with the fact that the video presentation looks professional, you don’t get any Quicktime logo while waiting for the video to load and videos are optomised once uploaded with the option of streaming normal or HD versions.

Make your hair last longer and stop wasting your time, if it is for a client then you can pass the cost onto them if they want something that is easy, compatible and streams professionally.
