[Pro] Advice on width website

Richard, I use Disqus now, and must say, I’m quite happy with it. But a combination could be possible if I start using Pulse pro because they include a blog option just as David suggested. For now even 25 dollar for Pulse is too much for me, so I leave it the way it is.

I am interested in Todds suggestion concerning building a responsive design; where can I find usefull information on this to help me start building and learning? I read the posts here, but everyone seems to have its own ideas. It would be nice to learn Softpresses vision on building responsive with Freeway. I just want to have a site that adapts to tablet and smartphone screensize, not with all kinds of fancy actions which could conflict.

I think the best way forward is to first do your homework and get a (at least) a basic understanding of what a responsive design entails from a technical point-of-view. Learn the terminology and understand what it is you’re trying to accomplish etc. Why? Because there’s the FW way of working and then there’s the way the rest of the web design world does things which means there will be times when you need to reverse-engineer how it’s typically done so you can recreate it in FW. So if you familiarize yourself with how a responsive design is constructed outside of FW then you might be better able to translate it. By gaining that understanding you will then have increased your skill-set which you can then apply elsewhere.

There are numerous non-FW resources explaining RD techniques. Google’s your friend. As far as FW goes Thomas and I believe David Owen have both posted FW examples of RD. Thomas also has a screencast or two (or three).

And remember that for the most part responsive design hinges on the clever manipulation of CSS through @media queries which you use to target specific devices and orientations (and high resolution screens), so be sure to pay close attention to those aspects. There is of course more to consider so be sure to ask questions, but that should keep you busy.

Thanks for your additional comment. But… If I decide to build a separate mobile site: what pagesize do I have to use and can that one service both smartphone and tablet, or schould I design sites for each separately? Are there specific page settings in Freeway to think about?

There are FW Templates for iPhone sites included in your FW package which will give you the relevant sizes.

And as far as Tablets go they shouldn’t really need any different treatment to your regular site.
