Yes, exactly! You did not write this code, Freeway Pro did!
However made though, Richard has a point. The code is telling me that you
may not be handling FWP in the best possible manner. The first column is
longer because you have so many mixed styles applied to all your text. It
may not look that way visually, but it is obvious in the resulting page
code.
Freeway Pro automatically creates styles for you, on the fly as it were –
especially when you are hunt-and-peck designing or making incremental
choices about style. You can see them all in the Styles palette if you use
the toggle gear at the top-right of the palette to select “Temporary
Styles”. Leaving that option checked is a good working practice and will
show you what FWP is doing as you work.
The best way to get rid of this code mess is to hilite ALL the table text
and go to menu
Style > Remove Styling
This should remove all the styling of the selected text. Now go back and
re-style JUST the first line of text… as you do, keep an eye on the Styles
palette - with the Temporary Styles option selected, you should see a new
style (usually the word “style” with a numbered suffix) hi-lited when you
select that first line. Open the Style Editor and select that style, or
right-click (control-click) the name from the palette, then change the
style name to something more memorable like “mystyle” or “tocnames” AND
MAKE SURE that you click the small checkbox marked “permanent” - very
important that.
Before you close the Style Editor, one last little “trick” to help, use the
Paragraph settings to set the text Alignment to left… Yes, I know the
alignment is already left, but having a Paragraph attribute will make this
new style apply to a whole paragraph and not just pieces of it. It will
also be easier to apply.
Once you’re back in the Editor window, hilite all the table text and apply
the style from the palette. Voila! all your text now has the same style in
a simplified structure that should sort your column lengths. AND you now
have a more “bullet-proof” way of working in Freeway Pro.
Best,
