[Pro] Another New Site Critique/Question

Just posted my site (for daughter’s track team). Tried out a few different things including Slideshow Pro slideshow and thumbgrid gallery and a calendar using a modification of Mke Yenco’s Agenda.

Happy with most things, although I notice that when some of the pages first load in Safari 4 beta there is often a page “flash”, especially the Photo Gallery and Calendar pages. Doesn’t do it as much in Firefox. Is there anything I can modify to lessen this from happening?

Any other comments, critiques suggestions appreciated as this is my first Freeway site.

I’ve noticed something else happening on my site, on the photogallery page.

If I view the page on my iMac G5, the computer I did the design on, everything looks normal with the type in the Slideshow. However, when viewed on my iMac, I notice that the dynamic type that appears when an album is selected, (Gallery, Next, Play and the title of the album above the thumbnails shows up as a serif font, when I selected sans-serif in Flash. How can I insure that the dynamic type in the swf stays sans serif

Overall you’ve done a good job. You should be pleased and so should
the Striders. The main content gives a good account of what the
Striders are about and will hold the interest of members and supporters.

Now to the very small criticisms. The small grey type in the galleries
is a shade too dark for me and is perhaps not so good for anyone with
less than 20/20 vision. A lighter grey would still blend well with
your design.

Personal choice, I know, but where the page carries more than a couple
of paragraphs of text, white out of black is not the easiest to read
option.
Where you have long text, you could try a white or light tinted
background panel with border and rounded corners to match the style of
the images used elsewhere. Just a thought, but it’s only one opinion -
ask around for more.

Thanks Colin

The Galleries type has been giving me some trouble. I initially had it set as arial, a bit bolder than is showing up now (Verdana) but I found that Arial wasn’t holding on some computers. I tried just a sans serif setting in Flash butt that was even harder to read. May go back to Arial and see if embedding the font would work. The slightly lighter gray is a good suggestion.

The striped or ribbed effect was a pattern I created in Photoshop. It’s really just a small square box with a dark gray background and some light ruled lines. You then import it into Freeway as a background and turn on horizontal and vertical tile.

Hi

I think that the flash you are getting is because your background image is a bit too large.

I would be tempted to try it at page width (or slightly wider) but just 25 pixels high and see if that helps. (Maybe a gif)

Thanks Dave

I had a version that was 250px x 250px that I had originally used that was lighter gray, but when I substituted it with the darker gray I accidentally used one that was about 800x800.

I replaced the big one with the 250x250px one for now. Not sure it made any difference.

ok… you mean the color in the back on the main page / master? (www.grassrootsweb.net
or www.villageobgyn.net)

and what flash? I did not notice anything but - that doesn’t mean
anything

I will look at the demetions etc and fix it.

Try cutting down the 800 x 800 to 800 x 25 and see if that makes a difference
