You’re hired for being the designer. The client doesn’t know how to be a good client - and if you don’t tell em, they start doing your job. Teach them being a good client and they’re convinced you are the best choice they made.
They pay your fee, that’s true - but they expect the best result possible as well:
Here we are talking about a redundant, non-semantic element which is 160kb in weight. I’d call this heavy-weight (even a hero-images can be smaller). So client fails and you accept it?
