Hi, I am trying to set up the carousel action using FWpro5, I have six html layered boxes each with a jpeg graphic layered on top using combine with children.
I have added the carousel the pane action to each of the html squares and set up the forward and backward arrows. When I preview the page the carousel is scrolling through the six panes but the graphics are not moving with it - therefore the first graphic is visible all the time and the html boxes are scrolling behind. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, please, many thanks.
You may have set these photos to combine, but it doesn’t sound like
they are part of the same layer as the carousel pane. You can fix this
pretty simply using the Site pane in Page mode.
Click on the header of the Site pane, and it will toggle to Page.
(Click again and it changes back.) While it’s in Page mode, you will
see an outline view of all the elements on your page. If you click on
a box on your page, you will see its name “light up” in the list, and
vice-versa.
Locate your Carousel and its Carousel Panes, they will have Action
badges on their names in the page list, so they’re pretty
recognizable. Then click on one of the associated pictures, and see if
it appears in the list to be “nested” into the carousel object. If it
is at the same level of hierarchy, then that’s your problem. Click on
the name of the picture in the list and drag it to the right until you
see the Carousel object highlight, indicating that it is accepting the
“child” element. The picture should not move on screen, but now it
will be a fully-contained member of the carousel pane, and should move
with the underlying HTML box.

That graphic is not part of the Carousel, it is simply sitting in a
layer above those swapping items.
What you need to do is set up each Carousel pane as a group, with the
group container object layered, of course. So, for this process
you’ll need to duplicate your graphic, put a copy on top of each HTML
box, group the HTML box and graphic together, and apply the Carousel
Pane action.
Important: remove the existing Carousel Pane action from each HTML
box first. Having that applied to something within a group that is
itself a Carousel pane can cause things to stop working. (In my
experience at least.)
So you should have one group per pane, with an HTML and graphic
within each group.
BTW, that Combine With Children setting for layered graphics setting
is only to persuade graphics to merge with other graphics that are
within the same layer. It doesn’t connect a graphic box with
non-graphic items or with graphics that aren’t within the same group.
It is roughly the equivalent of the Combine Graphics checkbox feature
for unlayered graphics.
