[Pro] Carousels Not Working in Lion

Hi;
I just upgraded to Lion yesterday and now the Carousels I’ve build into my various sites do not work when I preview from Freeway to Safari (or Firefox). I get a ‘RESOURCE CANNOT BE FOUND’ notice regarding the prototype1602packer.js (whatever THAT is ). Anybody else have any solution ideas or similar experiences?

Make sure you have the very latest version of the Action installed, and check to make sure you don’t have more than one (and the wrong one enabled). It takes a little extra conjuring to find your /Users/username/Library folder on Lion – it’s hidden by default – but there are plenty of answers out there on the google about how to do that. Once you do, look in the Application Support/Freeway 5/Actions/General folder and see how many copies you have of Protaculous.fwactionb.

You may need to go through a little dance with this troubled document, even if you have the latest and only one copy. What you will have to do is remove all traces of this Action from your document – every box that has any of the Carousel Actions applied to it needs to have that Action removed. Then publish once, and go back through and re-apply the Actions. This will re-link everything.

Thanks Walter. Should I simply Trash the existing Protaculous Actions altogether, re-install the Carousel Actions and then re-hook up all of the Carousels on the site?

You only need to trash if you have more than one and you don’t have the latest. The Actions all come with exactly the same filename (and different internal version numbers) so you should only have one at any given time. But if you see a Protaculous.fwactionb and a Protaculous1.fwactionb in that folder, you’d best delete them and start over with a fresh download.

The key thing when you get these sorts of errors is to remove the Actions in the affected document, publish once to clear out the local cache folder, then re-apply the Actions.

Hmm… I have these in the folder: protaculous.fwaction and Protaculous.fwactionb. Note the small and large case ‘p’ in the names. Sorry if I’m a bit slow… Should I remove 'em and re-download the
Action altogether?

Yes. Please. Not sure why you would have both, because protaculous.fwaction is supposed to be INSIDE Protaculous.fwactionb – it won’t work when it’s outside of that bundle.

Well, Walter… I’m back… I trashed the old ones, re-downloaded the Action and then built a brand new test site with nothing on it BUT a very simple Carousel and it STILL doesn’t work. It LOOKS OK at the start - I see ‘Slide 1’ - but the Carousel Buttons don’t work. Keep in mind I’ve been using the Action for a couple years now. This is a huge problem; I’ve got several sites to maintain using this Action. That’s where things stand at the moment. Any further ideas would be very appreciated.

OK… It’s working now. Just trashed and reloaded again and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks Walter.

Whew, because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do! It works here…

How many help desk employees does it take to change a light bulb?

One, to say “we have a copy of the light bulb here, and it’s working perfectly…”

I have been experiencing this same thing. My carousel worked before Lion. I did everything above and it did not help. I have burned an entire day on this. I downloaded the most recent (aug 24) carousel action. My first pane just scoots back and forth. The other never appear. Please help!

Would you please do the following:

  1. Check to see if you have more than one copy of Protaculous in your Actions folder. (See back in this thread for instructions to open the normally hidden ~/Library folder under Lion.) You may see more than one file with the word Protaculous in its name. You should only have one. For best results, delete all copies, then also clean out any copies you may have in your Downloads folder, then download the latest.

  2. If you really only have one, first close all open documents in Freeway, and create a new document. Draw an HTML box on the page, give it a color, duplicate it, and give it a different color. Apply Carousel to the first one and Carousel Pane to the second. While the first one is selected, set the auto-glide to 2 seconds or something like that. Preview in a browser.

  3. If that virgin document works, and a document you created previously does not, then try removing all instances of all of the Carousel Actions from all elements on all pages. Publish once. Re-apply the Actions where they were previously.

The Action really does work in Lion, that’s what I use here.

Thank you for your quick reply! It does work on a new blank document but it still isn’t working on the NWSE template which is the template I used for my website. I was using the textured background from that template and have create several new ones today trying it with that background. If all I need to do is use a different background, it’s worth it to be done with this issue! Thank you for your help!

What you need to do is go through each page that features a Carousel effect, remove the Carousel Actions from each element that uses them (this means all Carousel, Carousel Pane, Carousel Tab, etc. Actions, wherever they have been applied), publish once, and then go back through and re-apply the Actions. There is (most likely) a copy of an older version cached in the document itself, and it’s not working with the version you have installed in Freeway. Removing the Actions and publishing clears this cache.

If the Carousel Actions are applied to a Master Page, then you need to do this on both the Master and any child pages based on that master. I’m not sure if you can update the link between the master and children after you do this, not without either ending up with double-copies of all master items on your child page, or a mess, or both.

I’m not sure what is going on, but I can only get a carousel to work when starting with a completely blank site. Even when I started with a brand new NWSE template it didn’t work for me. So I am redoing my site without a template. I don’t care, I’m just happy my carousel works!!!
