[Pro] character encoding FW5.5

Hi all,

I’m having trouble with the UK Pound sign ‘£’ in freeway - the html output shows instead as a diamond with a question mark in it.

Is this something to do woth character encoding, and is there a setting for this in Freeway (FW5.5) or is this a machine-wide setting?

I think I’ve got a UK keyboard, it’s not proved a problem in the past - pound sign is on the 3 key.

cheers
Hugh

File>document Setup and look under the Text Tab

Default encoding should probably be set for Unicode UTF8 but post a link to your page and we can see what is currently set.

Or look in the Page Inspector (with nothing on the page selected) under the 3rd Tab and you can set it there on a page by page basis.

Only new pages will get the new encoding if set in Document Setup but change your Master and it should propagate.

Hi David,

Thanks for reply. The default setting (in setup) is Unicode 5.1 UTF-8

I notice on the page(s) in question that the setting in the inspector is Western ISO Latin-1, as it is for all pages on the site, in fact.

Is this an incompatability which needs to be corrected? I’ve generally not come across this before and have never in my Freeway history ever touched any settings to do with character encoding - so I’m a complete newbie to what it all means!

Without going in details: In my experience, Freeway falls back to
Western ISO Latin-1 in (too many) circumstances. To avoid that this
happens, you can verify that the template is set to UTF-8. You should
also open Document Setup in the File menu and, under the Text setup,
remove all encodings except UTF-8. Unfortunately, this procedure has to
be repeated for every Web site.

Hi Leif, thanks for comments. Looks like you’re saying UTF-8 is the one to stick with, yes?

As I suggested in my post. Yes.
