[Pro] classic stretch graphic help needed...

HI,

Does anyone know how I can take a graphic that is 980pxl wide x 60 height (same as my site) which is a horizontal line used to separate HTML text area,s and have the graphic line only stretch horizontally the length of their screen?

I know this is asked a lot.

here is my work in progress with the number line dividing graphic only going 980 pxl wide for now.

Well Sir, Mr. Teacher,

let me wrap this in a lil’ curriculum.

  • 1 . Changing attitude

The keyword is relative positioned items (aka Inline-construction or Box-in-Box-Model). This has nothing to do with preferences - it’s a simple requirement making modern web-pages.

  • 2 . Learning and Practice

Basically this “new” method (not really new) is easy to do, especially in Freeway:

Simply double-click either in workspace or in another (block-level) item) and choose insert → HTML item.

  • 3 . Repeating

However this method is basically not an affair to learn, it requires (as nearly everything in life) practicing. Skill comes with practice.

Once again as a rough-guide:

Placing items relative (instead of absolute) is nothing Freeway related. It is part of the vocabulary book of W3 school (W3C) http://www.w3schools.com/

Freeways’ one and only job is to make sure, that we are able to reach all those possibilities and Freeway does:

In an EXCELLENT and UNIQUE way.

Placing items absolute is only 50% (-1) of the web, relative positioning 99% and a clever mixture of them both should end up in 99,9% of all requirements a modern and solid webpage needs.

And if you now sit down and breathe 2 times, this should be as well the answer to your other list ( http://www.freewaytalk.net/thread/view/137101 ).

Happy Coding (as an alteration of wonderful Bob Ross’ Happy Paining)

Cheers

Thomas

Hi Barry

Further to Thomas’s reply, you can find a (very basic) tutorial and sample file for getting started with “Inline Box Model” layout on the page on our site at http://users.softpress.com/keith/box_model_tutorial/.

Using this method you can insert multiple HTML items and set the top and bottom borders (using the Custom setting for Border) to get a rule which always fits 100% of the width of the browser window regardless of what size the visitor makes the browser window.

I’m afraid there is no getting away from the fact that inline box model is more complex than the standard Freeway layout methods, but there are many things that can only be done using this method (such as multiple 100% width backgrounds, content containers which automatically grow with their content, etc.).

Best regards
