When I’m designing or updating a page with graphics, where should I place new graphics, in the Archive Media folder or the Resources folder that FW makes when you publish?
The rule of thumb here is to leave the FW created Resources folder alone as FW manages the contents of that and updates it on every preview or publish.
Never import images or files from it as all you will do is create an infinite loop as FW imports and then exports straight back in there. As the contents are in flux there is no guarantee that anything in there will still be there (or be named the same) when FW goes looking for it.
All images should be stored in the Media folder and imported from there. Personally I keep original images elsewhere and place a copy in the Media folder and use it as my source when importing.
That way you always have the originals if you maybe trash the Project folder by mistake.
So I made a new Archive which made a new Media folder with all graphics linked to it.
I added some missing graphics to the Media folder and then dropped theses graphics on a few pages that had blank graphics boxes. I then saved the page.
When I preview the page, the places where I added the missing graphics are either white or have the drop shadow only.
I checked the graphics file in the Media folder and they display correctly. I also checked the Document info and the added graphics are referenced from the Media folder.
So why are they displaying as either white or just the drop shadow?
