[Pro] CMS on Master page

I have set up a latest news item on a master page using web yep so that all the pages have the latest news active.

I have tried to think, yes sometimes its struggle, how I can allow the client to update these elements so that every page updates with the latest news. As these elements are on the master page then they obviously can’t see this to make the changes but can only do a one page edit.

Any thoughts?

If you use an iframe to show the news, then all pages could point to the one (editable) page with nothing on it except the news. The only downside to this is that you may end up with an in-page scroll bar if the news is taller than the allotted space.

Hello Walter, Many thanks for your time. Good to hear from you.
This sounds like a possible solution.
Would this negate the need to use web yep or include web yep in the actual iframe?

I shall give it some thought.

You would place an iframe on any page where you wanted the news to appear, and those frames would not need WebYep, because they are just a static “window” through which your page visitors can “see” the one and only news page (think of them as aliases to the original page). On the news page, you would set up WebYep as usual, and as soon as that page is edited in any way, the changes will percolate out to any page that has it referenced in an iframe. (Well, not magically while the page is already open, but the next time someone loads one of the pages that contain an iframe.)

Hi tonzodehoo
if you ad a webyep item to a page and set the global drop down to true within the inspector pallet, then you can use the same item on any other page/s and they will all have the same content… its a bit like an includes. You can edit the content from any of the pages and the amended text will be reflected on every page. Doing it this way negates the use of frames. Hopes this helps

Thanks Max and Walter for your thoughts.
I shall be back onto this project tomorrow so shall try out the methods suggested and see what I think will work best for the person using the CMS.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Hello again Max and Walter.

Eventually got round to considering things with this.

Not sure if I’m being a bit thick here but I shall tentatively try to explain things!

I’ve set up a sample using both suggestions here.

The Next Page shows how the versions would look on every other page.

Would the web yep elements which are also carousel panes have to be placed on every page? If they are would they all be set to global?

The iFrame proposal maybe just needs a bit of setting up of the page where the web yep resides so that it fits in the iFrame neatly.

I suppose I am looking for a way to have a CMS latest news panel with changing headlines which is the same on every page and maybe there is another way to do this.

Thanks again

Anthony
