Do you have a CMS picked out, or are you at that decision point at the moment?

CMS is picked out

I known what it has to do and the functions of the user

I have used EE before but that was with a dev I worked with.

Its the middle ground as I need something is solid and I can understand
Perch I just wasnt happy with… not sure why just didnt like
but I need to learn and wanted some freeway ref to it

really I was happy with EE

Have you bought the Action set for EE? That makes it more simple than not. Also, there’s an extensive manual with that Action to help you get up the first step of the learning curve.

Not to highjack this thread, but I’m getting ready to select a CMS for a project and I’m a bit confused.

  1. What’s the difference between something like Perch and EE? 2. Is one any better than the other?
  2. Which CMS do most Freeway Pro users prefer and why?
  3. As a beginner, which CMS would be the easiest to implement into an existing FWP website?

Thanks for your help.

  1. What’s the difference between something like Perch and EE?

Features. EE is a big ol’ hairy beast. Great, but it might be overkill depending on the project requirements.

  1. Is one any better than the other?

“Better” is very subjective. What does the project and client require from a CMS? What best fits in with the needs of the site and client? That’s what should drive your decision.

  1. Which CMS do most Freeway Pro users prefer and why?

It’s probably safe to say most users prefer a lightweight CMS like Pulse, WebYep, MiniCMS etc. because they suit the needs of the project.

  1. As a beginner, which CMS would be the easiest to implement into an existing FWP website?

If the choices are EE or Perch, then Perch would be easier. But there are other options that would be even easier.

Thanks Todd.

To answer your questions, my client has never used a CMS before, so I’d like it to be simple. I’d also like something that is white labeled, so it appears that I’m offering the solution, not a third part. Easier is always better, so I’m open to any ideas you may have.

Then look at WebYep, Pulse and Perch for starters. They’re all very easy for clients to use and can be easily integrated into FW, though with varying degrees of features. I’m not certain about white label versions of the above but it should be easy to find out. There are of course a great many other options out there. Google’s your friend. It’s probably best to stay away from EE unless your client requires a feature or functionality that EE excels at or can’t be found in a more lightweight CMS.

Agreed. Besides, I simply don’t have the expertise, or budgets, to employ EE yet.

I was pretty impressed with Perch, based on another members use of it, so perhaps I’ll start there. Thanks for your help. I’m sure you and the other forum members will be hearing from me once I begin to plugin Perch.

Sorry Stuart, I’ll gracefully return the thread back over to you.
