[Pro] cms

I have been asked to put together a small site for a client who wishes to update some text and photography themselves. Now I have been looking at Perch fo the content management a sits only a small site.

Could anyone give me some advice as this will be my first go at putting together some cms work.

Many thanks

What kind of advice are you looking for?

Hi Todd

I need a cms package that is built for small sites also easy for me as a novice to pick up and get into as far as learning and setting up with future clients.

Well, Pulse and WebYep seem to be the mainstays around here. Simple to use and integrate into FW. Perch is also very good but more “hands-on”.

Just make sure whatever you choose isn’t overly simple or complex for the client’s needs. If you pick something the client is going to outgrow in a year just because it’s easy then that’s a new problem.

As discussed in other recent threads here - CMS choice depends on many factors which all have to be taken into account.

1 User competency - a too complicated CMS will never be used by an inexperienced/novice user.

2 Requirements - what sort of content need to be changed, text, images, video, sound etc. Not all CMS will do them all.

3 Added features - do you need to add pages, menus, blogs, galleries etc - again not all will do all of these.

You need to sit down with the client and work out exactly what features he needs and what he can live without and how willing he is to get his hands dirty. Once you have that list you can look at the options and narrow the field.
