[Pro] Colored Side Margins

Hello everyone,

I would like to know how I am able to achieve a look similar to the one displayed in the referenced url. The main portion of a page is to be in white, but I would like the portions of the page that are left and right of the main window to be a different color.

How am I able to achieve this?

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom,

the key is inspectors second tab:

Window-background (in your example) the mid-grey

Page-Background (in your example) the black,

if we talk about FW 6+.

Cheers

Thomas

Is it you that contacted me PM? If - sorry not coming back to you but had a few busy days without staring at the screen

Hi Thomas,

Yes it was me that pm’d you. Thanks for replying to this thread. Yes, I am using FW 6+. I have tried your suggestion and when I do, here is the result: setting either the page or window color to efefef results in the page only changing color.

I accidentally pasted the wrong url before. Here is the correct one:

http://xssmgmt.com

I am wanting the main page to be white and the sides to be efefef.

Is it because I do not have a border, that I am having these difficulties?

Thanks again Thomas!

well - if I rush into your page-(code), I’m ending up in the following result, which tells me, that it should be possible:

Please make sure that you really PUBLISHED your changes.

Or a better idea:

Just create a quick new empty page and try it there. This CAN’T be a big affair to try.

Thomas,

I created a blank page and am still unable to get the window to be one color and the page to be another.

I did not draw any html boxes. I simply changed the window and page colors and previewed them. The only color that was visible is the page color (the window color was ignored).

Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks.

What’s your page-width and page orientation? Try something like “center” and “980px”. And naturally only in preview visible.

My page-alignment is set to center, my page width is set to 980/flexible. I have my

Still not achieving what I want. Thoughts?

set the page-width to maximum (980px) instead of flexible cause flexible means, that the page width = browser window width and therefor the pw covers the bw.

I am not sure why you set the page-width to flexible (cause your construction doesn’t show any necessity for), but if, you have to remove the page-background color and wrap all your content in a “page-wrapping-item” which has the wanted color instead.
