[Pro] Confusing link in web address bar

I was hoping to ask for advice on a (hopefully) simple question:

On some website I’ve noticed they have ‘clean’ web address description links e.g.

http://www.tickboxmarketing.co.uk/articles/seo/

But with my Freeway sight it looks like this:

http://www.alternative-angles.com/About/whatwereabout.html#.UI65WUIaJUQ

What’s happening at the end ‘UI65WUIaJUQ’? Can I just have /whatweareabout/

without ‘html#.UI65WUIaJUQ’ appended to it?

Regards,

Mark

This appears to be part of the AddThis script. Try removing that Action from the site, publish again, and see if it disappears.

Thanks Walt,

I fear I might need to keep the AddThis button function. If so, is there a course of action you could suggest?

Don’t worry about it. Anything after the # is client-side only, and won’t affect your Google rank or anything else. It’s manufactured in the browser, and the Google bot is not a browser. If you don’t like the way it looks (aesthetically) then don’t use the Action. I don’t have any other suggestions.

That’s great, thank you Walter. Appreciate it seemed like a daft question!
