[Pro] contact form question...

Hi all,

when someone writes me a message using my contact form, I get the message in my inbox from the EMAIL address that they put in the contact form.

I think I set this up a while ago on purpose so that I can simply hit REPLY and it goes to them.

is there a way to change this??
due to problems, can I get the email that arrives at me from the contact form to come from my contact form or something and then I will copy and paste their email address when I return the message.

thanks!!

Barry

Which Action are you using to “wire” your contact form?

php feedback form action

MY massive @yahoo and @aol problem (which we discussed) is still at large and I do not want to leave gmail.

I have found many many things online recently (not sure if you are aware) about changes with yahoo and AOL and how emails are being deleted automatically if the yahoo and aol emails are not sent directly from their servers due to issues with the companies. This is causing havic all over. I think this is my case…

I am trying to find a different ay to get them…

thanks walt

Walt,

got lucky!!! just heard back from an email guru and this is what he said… does not make 100% sense to me as of now…

"Yeah, AOL and Yahoo had some gross security breaches and are misusing an anti-phishing scheme called DMARC in an inept attempt to close the barn door after the horse is gone. Since Google is part of the DMARC group, this affects mail sent to Gmail users. I blogged about it here:

http://jrl.guru/Email/aoldmarc.html

If you have access to the web server that handles your web forms, the usual hack is to mess with the AOL and Yahoo addresses so DMARC doesn’t recoginize the address. On my discussion lists, which have the same problem, if someone is, say:

From: email@hidden

I change it to

From: email@hidden

(.invalid is a name that is guaranteed never to be used)

This looks, and is, stupid, but it will at least get the mail through.

Surely you could avoid this problem by using a to address @hoffkids.com

Cant see why it is any easier to use a gmail account when you have your own server!

It seems to me that you are making life more difficult (copy/pasting email addresses to reply) than necessary.

I would set up an Imap account for mail(@)hoffkids.com (or whatever) that you can access from any device.

Thanks Dave,

Other than getting my email thru my own server and setting up an imap account etc,

is there a way for the action to send me the message from my contact form address of some sort NOT from the email address the person enters?

I thought I recall when we first set this up a long time ago, it was arriving from a generic address and then we made it so when I hit reply it goes right to them.

I want to put it back and try things out…
possible?

hope you are well!

If you set it to appear to come from a generic address then when you hit Reply it will reply to the same generic address.

If you are using PHP Feedback Form, then just set the name of the email field (in your form) to anything besides ‘email’ (lower-case, no quotation marks) and you will get this behavior. If you are using the Send Form Action, then fill in the Sender Address field with your desired sending address, and be sure to deselect any of the options in the Use Item For Sender [whatever] class.
