[Pro] Contact Form

Hi guys
so here is a new one! I have been pulling my hair out with scripting issues. Tim Plumb has a great contact form action but there is a conflict with my host server and the emails do not go thru. I have tried everything. So now I am not able to use the easy Tim Plumb action and forced to use the host server function… but now I am not able to use my Success or Error pages. My host server can not help me…

It seems so odd that

Anyone have advice for me.
Thx
C

the second script is the one I need to connect with my server

Once you do this you should remove any form handling actions you have used on the page, i.e. PHP feedback form or PHP easiForm actions.

  1. Select ‘Page > Form Setup…’

  2. Set ‘Method’ to POST

  3. Type ‘webformmailer.php’ (without quotes) in the ‘Action’ field.

  4. Press ‘OK’

Now when the submit button is pressed the form will be sent to: webformmailer.php

Hi Mike

yes it is already set to method - post - webformmailer.php
and it works fine with my server

but I am not able to use Tim Plumbs action, which is
contactus.php in source code, which overrides the webformmailer.php, that stops it form getting to my server.

I have contacted him already and he says that this cannot be changed

so now what? is there no way to have a success or error page? I have asked my server peopler and they can not help me with script.

am I not clear with explaining m quandry?
Thx

As your form is now directed to the webformmailer.php script then that is what handles your form and what happens on success or error, the only way to change that is to change the webformmailer.php script.

  1. What is the reason why the emails are not permitted by your server?

  2. Are you saying the hosting company allows you to use the webformmailer.php script and nothing else?

Is this a GoDaddy hosted site Carla?

If so then I think there is an alternate gdform.php handler that has a redirect option to get you to a success page anyway. Maybe not an error page if it fails!

There are users of my PHP easiForm actions that are hosted on Go daddy and there has not been any problems using the easiForm actions there, would be interesting to know what the restriction is that they have the does not permit the other form you are trying to use!

Looking closer at gdform I dont think that it is going to give you the error page that you want either.

Alternatively use the form validation actions on your page that checks it for missing fields etc before it gets anywhere near the form handler script. Then errors are weeded out before submission and you only need a success page.

Mike
maybe you do not understand…I can use goddady script fine but I wanted to use Tim Plumb’s script as it was so nice to have a success and error page option…
There are no restrictions with godaddy. They just have nothing for me to redirect the page, but now I have changed to gdform… and am trying to figure the redirect line to put line

so I a may not have the ability to have an error page

I thought there was a conflict with the server!.. not to worry if you have it sorted.

Hi Mike
right, tim plumbs, contact form actions will not work with go daddy at all. so I can not use them but I want to and it is upsetting, so I have to find another way… so yes there is a conflict with his action with my server.
My server will only allow their form scrip to be used, which really is not nice I must say,
and I know nothing about scripts

As I was telling you I have clients using my PHP easiForm action on go daddy, if they can use that then why would they not be able to use Tim’s action with Godaddy?.. I don’t understand what the reason would be for that as Tim’s script is much simpler than the one I use as mine actually needs ioncube!

Did they tell you the reason why the emails are not permitted by your server?

If you cant use Tim’s form then you don’t get the success and error options - only success.

But the Form Validation suite will check the form before it gets to the form handler whether it is gdform or webformmailer and so you shouldn’t need the error page. The only time you should get an error is when the script itself fails and that is out of your hands.

To add the redirect on success you will need to add a hidden field to your page something like:

input type=“hidden” name=“redirect” value=“thankyou.html”

In Page>Form setup click on the 'Hidden" tab - select new. Add name:redirect and value: pathtoyourthankyoupage.html

Thanks Dave

weill it looks like I was able to figure out the godaddy gdform

and inserted the hidden field to redirect to success page
I will forget the error page and be done with it!

so now I do not need to bother with the validate actions?? yes
Thanks all

And remember that like you I use GoDaddy for registrations etc but I don’t host with them.

I will put my sites where I get the best features for my money and to have such a restricted practice foisted upon me would not be acceptable, for me or my clients.

Dont bother if you do not want to check that the necessary fields are filled in!

If you want to check - use the actions.
