[Pro] Creating a simple email form

I’ve looked at the help file and it doens’t really tell me anything. Can anyone send me to a simple step-by-step guide on how to put an email form on my website?

I merely want users to be able to send an email to me (easy), but rather than just open their email host, I want to prompt them line by line on what they need to write in the email - ideally by filling in, say, four boxes of text (which I can write instructions for), which then arrive in my inbox as four paragraphs of email.

Simple, but the form help is so complicated.

Thanks

Tom

If you visit Tim’s site at http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=019

You can get the action - if you haven’t already - and an example FW doc.

That’s wonderful - thank you David. This is all new to me so the Help file didn’t help at all.

I now seem to have made a form ok, and it even seems to be working!

The only things I can’t work out how to do are

  1. make the Text Fields show the same size as the cells they are in (I had to paste them inside the cells or they wouldn’t stay where i wanted them) and

  2. make the Text Area the same size as the cell its inside, and also control the font in the Text Area. (I always have this trouble with actions and mark-ups, as they don’t seem to have a text edit function and I can only control by swiping over some conventional text and changing all of it - which hasn’t worked on this occasion.

You can see the form here:

http://www.turnstone.tv/form.html

As you can see, the input boxes are too small, but when I make them bigger they just enlarge the cell, leving a large margin - only I have both padding and margins set to 1.

Thanks

Personally I would remove the cell borders from your table.

Look at these 2 examples http://www.deltadesign.co/formtest.html

and http://www.deltadesign.co/formtest2.html

Which looks better?

Also revisit the action page I linked to before and read the section on Special Names.

Currently you have NAME and EMAIL - these are case sensitive and should be ‘name’ and ‘email’ for the forms extra features to function.

Ah - thanks. I was looking for some way to hide the cell borders, but I now see that you just set the value to zero.

Also re the name and email - I did know this, but wanted them better separated in the email - hence the caps, but have now removed.

I’m still not sure how to make the Text Fields and Text Area line up, though - as they used different measurements.

Text Field Size equates to Text Area Columns - same values in those 2 will give you the same length of fields.

So ‘screen measurements’ means ‘box measurements?’

Ok. I’ve made all the Text Fields be the same width (400), but they still don’t line up with the Text Area (also 400).

I’m experimenting with the rows and columns in the text Area (currently 13 and 35) but they don’t seem to relate to width at all.

256 is the max columns anyway, so I can’t put 400.

Confused of Leeds

If you are struggling then try the action that Thomas linked to

Thanks - I did have a look at that action (Thanks Thomas), but it was too complicated for me.

I’ve got the Form working now, and though it’s not quite how I’d like I’ll stick with that.

It would be great if Freeway were able to do something about some of these layout issues, though. My son and wife are both professional software developers and they can’t make head nor tail of Freeway!

I’m just a humble user but by sticking with the very easy things and only trying to improve very slowly when I have to - over many many years - I’m managing ok for now.

Thanks again
