[Pro] Creating integrating & adjusting scripts or bespoke style sheets

Creating, integrating & adjusting scripts or bespoke CSS Style sheets and all within Freeway… quickly

For some time I have been trying to think of ways to incorporate extra style sheets, javascript files, xml files, php files, html files … etc etc in fact the list of cool extras, effects, framework libraries and scripts that are out there are enormous and each one is different, in the way that they need to be implemented into a website. While looking for ways to push the boundaries of WebYep I came across a great new Framework which is turning out to be a great way of increasing what you can do with CSS style syntax.

While I was experimenting with this new system, I started to think about how to implement this system (and all the other great scripts out there) into Freeway. How to adjust the css syntax that this type of system requires and how I was going to be able to place these extra files in specific folders, and on top of all this I wanted to be able to adjust the content of these scripts or css styles quickly too… was this too much to wish for.

Well, actually it’s a quite a tall order for a program that prides it’s self on keeping all this away from the designer. But if you are like me, then this area of Freeway has been a bit of a handicap. So rather than create specific actions that can do one or another on my wish list, I decided to try and create an action set that could handle it all. I quickly realised that creating the actions was only part of the problem, I also realised I needed to come up with a working method that would allow me to do all of the above too, so…

…finally I have construct an 2 actions that handles all the different document types, and coupled with this a method of working within freeway that will allow me to arrange these new files in a folder structure that I choose.

As an example of what I mean:

I have a form with a date field, but to make this date field more interesting for my client, I want to use a javascript date picker that I had seen a few weeks back. So the problems are that: based on the date picker instructions which I downloaded I need to…

  1. Add a special css style sheet

  2. Add 2 javascript files

  3. Upload extra images into a media folder

  4. and finally I need these css and javascript files to be placed in folders (the css sheet in the css folder which Freeway creates and the javascript files in a js folder. oh one more thing, I may need to get to the style sheet to adjust it.

…this probably sounds familiar to those people that have experimented with these sort of items and for those that have not then, you will soon discover that getting scripts to work, that were never designed for Freeway can be quite a headache

I have constructed a complete tutorial based on the above scenario and a completed example with the action set.
