[Pro] CSS

Hi again,

as some of you may know I am a complete novice using Freeway, but nevertheless, I have been able to devise several sites

jbpuzzles.co.uk
khseniors.org.uk
larkara.org.uk

using the very basic facilities provided by FWPro. I would like to learn more, especially about CSS. I haven’t a clue what CSS does although I do know it stands for Cascading Style Sheets.

Can someone out there (Waltd or DeltaDave perhaps) refer me to a basis guide, preferably in words of one syllable. I would really appreciate that.

Thanks.

Hi John

CSS is primarily for styling the elements that make up a website. It can be applied to containers and the elements that they hold. One of the most useful applications is css edit http://macrabbit.com/cssedit/ With this app you can look at existing websites, extract the css stylesheet and play around with the styles to see how they work. It was the one thing that helped me to take a grasp of css. Once you have an idea you can experiment on your own sites in the knowledge that it is not going to change what other’s see.

Dan Cedarholm has some very well-written books on CSS. Start there. Also, here’s a pretty good list for beginners http://webdesign.about.com/od/books/tp/best-css-books.htm.

Thank you also Todd. I want to use and understand CSS without getting into writing HTML. I want to stay under the comfort of my security blanket that is FW Pro.

While you don’t need to write html, in order to come to grips with css you will need at least a fundamental understanding of html structure.

I’ve started reading. What I really need is a manual about using CSS within FW5 Pro. Thanks a lot. I appreciate your interest.
