[Pro] Database for ads...?

Is there a way to do a homepage for a small union, whose members sells small things, clothes DVD´s, to each other, AND let them publish these ads themselves, and remove these ads after the selling?

Password protected, for the members only, of course.

You could use a CMS.

The big trick would be having the ads removed after the sale is
complete.

I investigated this once, and one possible avenue – assuming Paypal is
the payment processor – would be using a Paypal ‘callback’ URL that
triggers an update in the database of content for sale, marking the item
as sold. Whatever script populates the ‘stuff for sale’ pages would have
to fetch the content from the CMS database, leaving out any items marked
as sold.

In code logic terms it’s not that complex, but I must admit the Paypal
callback side of things did get frustrating enough that I dropped the
whole idea in the end.

Yes, it would take some extra work. If you went the CMS route it could be done with some customization, assuming the CMS was capable of that level of flexibility. It would make for a fun project.

Fun indeed, but moderately intense. One of the reasons I gave up on what
I was trying was because I had to write the CMS from scratch. It was a
fabulous learning experience!

[Laughs] From scratch?! Sheesh. You should have looked into MODX.

Mmm. Well, I think this was around 2007. Things have moved on a bit
since then!

Thanx for your replies! So, in other words, there are no FW action that could do the job…? The PP thing does not in the ned sound that convincing… As I am not too familiar with transactions on the Net anyway… Maybe I live in the past here…!

I can’t say definitively about an Action but I suspect, no.

If you attempt this via a database and/or CMS then it will most likely require a solution beyond the capabilities of an Action, though I could be wrong. Perhaps there’s an alternative approach.

This is something that would be way beyond the scope of an action.
You’re talking proper database integration with intelligent handling of
notifications from the payment processor. Sorry! :frowning:
