Hello all, I’ve been offered the chance to tender for a very large garden plant grower’s website. They have an enormous catalogue, want e-commerce etc.
What are the advantages of using Expression Engine, or other CMS as against a regular Freeway generated site? The client won’t update it, I will and first thoughts it will be about 300 pages.
It would be completely unrealistic (not to mention a nightmare) to build and update a 300 page static site. Not that it couldn’t be done but geez, the amount of time you would spend updating it would be prohibitive in the extreme. A static site is simply not an option for something like that. Find a suitable CMS and integrate it with FW and spend the rest of your time doing something fun instead of updating the site.

You may want to look into something that is specifically designed for
shopping carts first, rather than a more generic CMS or blogging
engine. Several people on this list have mentioned Ecwid in breathless
tones, and I would look at that for a site with that many pages.
There are others – far more geek-oriented – like Shopify and
FoxyCart that you could try if you have more elaborate needs than what
Ecwid can do for you.
