[Pro] Drawing Precise Arcs

The option grays out only after I’ve done the operation. I’m definitely in object mode to begin with. Commands are grayed out only after I’ve done the operation. I.e.:

  1. Convert arcs to curve (supposedly);
  2. Subtract (supposedly)

Edit indicates that the operations have been performed; for example, it shows the option to undo the subtraction. But the subtraction results only in the deletion of the star, leaving the circle intact. I actually have no way of knowing whether subtract is working because covert definitely isn’t.

When it´s grayed out you´re not in “Object” mode. Hit “S”-key then and try again.

Julie:

  1. Arc to curve conversion:
The when You “x” select the oval after it is created it has just one point, when You "x"select it after You’ve converted it to curves it should have 4 bezier points…
  2. Subtract:
I’ve got the same result here… Just a plain circle after the subtract command…

Frank:
Please do it once more but set the star tool to defaults and then set it up i your way… I’m curious if the subtract will cause any other effect than ours (I mean the absence of the star and the circle itself…)

I´ll be back with a video - think this is the best way. But I´m off the next few hours - so don´t hold your breath

Good news,

I’ve studied help file once more and I have a suggestion on drawing precise arcs…

  1. Create anything which will give You a basic shape, (a star or 3 lines 60degr one to another, use the right size).
  2. And just start the “pie arc” (!sic! Yes this is that simple!) so press “a”, click from the middle then drag it to one of the ends, now ALT(OPT)+click and drag to another point and You will see that Intaglio makes just a pie slice!!!
  3. after creating 3 slices, remove the guiding shape, combine them, and make a circle inside,
  4. Now subtract circle from the combined shape,
  5. Create smaller circle inside and You’ve got it!

TIP:
Each time You reach the exact point a small circle around is created to show that this is the right place…

TIP2: To draw a circle exactly inside the 3 pie slices, press “o” and then SHIFT+ALT(OPT)+ click and drag. Intagio will create a circle with it’s center in the place You’ve clicked.

Ok - took some time to figure out there is a bug in the Boolean operator - as in the circle object: every-time I change arcs to curves I receive 5 points. 2 overlapping at 15:00h/3am/pm. I´m pretty sure placing the spokes over that participates to the crash.
So I made the video the safe&precise way:

Great job out there Frank  I like the idea of using a 6 sided polygon as a template - it is much easier to erase it

Anyway it was a real fun to do it…

Anyone any other drawing tutorial?

That is cool - too be honest this was my first try, but for some reason I´m not able to draw a whole slice with the arc tool like you - just this outer edgy thingy.
How did you achieve this?

Ok - holding “alt” key down will do it. So this is quick.
