[Pro] Email

Hi All,

I’m after some general advice.

I have set up several email accounts in the past and all sort of work fine. I do get problems with recipients having to fish through their spam folders etc. I have recently created a web site for a business that regularly needs to send large emails.

Other than the basic setting up of the accounts, should I be doing something else to ensure they appear as legitimate emails.

Would you recommend spending on SSL certification etc ?

Many thanks,

Neil

The tools you’ll have at your disposal are mostly found in your DNS. You’ll want to set an MX record for the mail server (and the Web server if it’s a different machine or different IP address and it sometimes sends out mail), a reverse DNS record for the mail server (and Web server) and then there’s TXT records and SRV records which can add to the authenticity of your outgoing mail. Depending on your hosting setup, you may have to visit different control panels to set these. Google is your friend regarding what to put in them, too. SSL simply secures the traffic between servers, it does not authenticate your mail server to individual client computers, as far as I understand it.

But one thing you cannot manufacture for yourself is time. Sheer longevity on the Net will account for a higher quality score. You may have to be patient, which is difficult for many clients to bear, I know.
