[Pro] Embed a blog

Can you embed a blog into a freeway pro website?

I have embeded a few blog feeds in the past via rssfeeds which works great, however from this example http://clitherowspeaks.wordpress.com/
I would like a similar feed to Not be external - rather accesible via one of the freeway website pages of the particular school site I am working on?
Thanks
Steve

Have a look at pulsecms.com Pulse has a Blog feature that is dead easy to implement on a FW page. A couple of lines of code and a PHP enabled page are all you need.

Following David’s lead, I used Pulse on this website: http://durangoing.com/blog.php . It’s pretty straightforward and the client can do all the updating.

With responsive images too!

Is it hard to learn how to work with Pulse? It seems easier to use than wordpress but has the same functionality of FW

I was totally new to Pulse before doing this website and it added a day or two at most to the job. It wouldn’t have needed to add that much, but I read all the documentation and I think I posted to this forum a few times. I had a little trouble installing Pulse, but the developers got back with me very quickly. Now that I’ve done it on one site, I’ll be able to add the functionality to future sites with just a few hours depending how many pages need the CMS functionality. I’m pleased with the result. I’ve implemented Blogger into a Freeway site and I’ve also used Wordpress. Pulse definitely was easier with a more desirable outcome. Give it a go!

Is it compatible with backdraft or does it already have the responsive site involved? Also, if a client want to use another designer, is pulse able to be used in other software such as dreamweaver or is ONLY for FW

Pulse is a CMS - it runs on the server through a web browser interface.

You can certainly use Pulse with Backdraft but tweaking may be required.

Another vote here for Pulse Howard.

Be aware though that although it is very easy to implement and very easy for the client to blog or edit content on any freeway page (you just paste a couple of lines of code into a FW div), it does not allow the your client to add pages. you would have to do this in FW and then let the client add content.

I have Pulse working on a lot of different sites and nowadays it takes about 10 minutes to set it all up (and I am not a coder!)

A couple of examples:

Good luck!

Mark,

On this page, http://www.bite-me-spices.co.uk/blog.php , how did you get the “Latest Blogs” section? As I understand it, Pulse doesn’t have this functionality built in.

It used to. It appears it is an add-on now.

Cool David, thanks! I wonder why the guys at Pulse didn’t share that info with me when I asked? Glad to know I can add this!

I’m going to take a look shortly, thanks for the good advice

To throw a question/scenario into the mix (without me looking at Pulse yet)…

I run a school website and want all teachers to blog -
So that would mean 13 classes (Teachers) blogging - embedded into 13 different class pages…

  • I have achieved this in the past with blogger with 4 classes.

However we have issued them with Ipads so I want to sell them the idea that they can take pics, type up some blog and post (via an app) ! ? Anyone done anything similar?

You should really start a new thread for this.

Generally speaking a blog (depending on the system/CMS) can often be setup with filters so each teacher’s page will only show posts by whatever criteria (filters) are set for it.

You could also setup each teacher with their own CMS/blog account and they can sign-in via whatever device. Some of the more robust CMS allow for very granular control over who can access what which is obviously very useful.

Alternatively you could use a 3rd Party app like Blogo or MarsEdit (not sure if they have iOS versions) to create the post which would then hook into the actual blog. The catch is that these apps don’t support every blog option out there.

Thanks Todd.

Delta Dave - It was my thread to start with! I have just added to it with an Ipad/ios scenario.

I know that but I just felt that you were expanding it and it warranted its own discussion about multiple users for a CMS and the ramifications that brings.

Hey David,

I’d like to have a “latest blogs” section (as mentioned above) on my pulse blog and the link you shared is 404 on the the pulse site. When I asked the guys at Pulse they said it wasn’t a feature they offered. Mark – how did you do this??

Thanks!

Does your pulse blog publish an RSS feed? If so, you can use the ReadFeed Action to do this. That will read the RSS and convert it into HTML on your site. It does this using PHP, so your server needs to support that. More info at the Forge.
