[Pro] Embedded Playlist

The example site listed below is owned by a friend in Oz, and is entirely Windows created. The current embedded Playlist is “Wimpy Player” which is a “Flash Player”, and consequently locks out iOS devices, unless an alternate Browser, such as “Puffin”, is installed on the iOS device.

I am endeavouring to persuade my friend to switch, and why not, and so I am attempting to set up a trial site via Freeway. Wimpy Player have recently introduced an iOS compliant version, “Pickle”. Unfortunately, from my point of view, to insert “Pickle” into a WebPage, various lines of code need to be inserted directly as code, partly in between the tags, and partly in between the tags, and I am at a loss as to how to accomplish this within Freeway. I realise the code can be inserted via a text editor, but as far as I understand it, Freeway will overwrite hand inserted code with every Freeway upload, so any guidance as to how to include the “Pickle” structure within a Freeway WebSite will be very much appreciated. Alternatively, if there is a different means of creating an active Playlist withinFreeway, either directly, or via alternative Software, any advice in this direction would also help me to solve the problem.

Many thanks

Don’t know if this is of any use to you:

I have a mixcloud account - http://www.mixcloud.com - where I upload a radio show. That gives me code which I simply copy and paste into an iframe in freeway which makes for a new page. The dates on the webpage link to a different iframe page.
You will need to set up an account with mix cloud, but it’s free and even someone of my mediocre skills found it very easy to use.

Hi Noel,
And thanks for the info, I will certainly check that out. At the mo’ however, a possible solution using the Wimpy Pickle framework, if at all possible, will be a preferred option, as this is the system that the original Site Owner has been working with.

FW gives you several options to add code

1 - Page>Html Markup gives you a dialogue box and a selector where you can choose from many ‘slots’ into which you can add your code ie Before or After Html, Before or After Head, Before or After Body etc.

2 - A second option is to use Insert>Markup item into which you can add code and then position the resulting box on your FW page wherever you want (can be resized etc. too)

Either method produces code that remains untouched by FW’s publishing process.

Hi David,

Thanks for the answer. I was happy about placing code via Insert>Markup, but the options in Page>HTML Markup was new to me and would seem to answer my queries. I’m awaiting the current Wimpy Skin from Oz, but hopefully will have a go tomorrow at completing a test page. I’ll post about how it goes, or whether I need any further hand holding.

Having upgraded to Freeway 6 today in preparation, perhaps I’d better order the glossy new hard copy manual as well to answer some of my queries directly.

Thanks again

Neil

Another couple of player options to keep in mind are Soundcloud and Reverbnation. Both have free players that are HMTL5. I’ve added them to quite a few sites I’ve built with Freeway.

sadly, the glossy guide is for version 5 only - doesn’t appear to be one for version 6. All you have is a ‘What’s new in 6’ pdf.

This is my first attempt with Pickle, and is just one track only. http://www.neil-carter.co.uk/rz/ After two shortish sessions I’m fairly pleased so far. I have tested it in Safari - Camino - Chrome - Firefox - iPad. All OK other than Firefox which will not play. If there is some guidance as to why Firefox will not play I would be grateful. Also, I have no means of checking Explorer on a PC, so a quick check there would be very helpful as well.
Next session will be to attempt a multi-track Playlist, keeping fingers crossed.
At least the main point of the exercise, to gain compatibility with iOS seems to have succeeded.

Thanks as always

Neil
