Yeah, I got email as well. Or maybe it was a forum post. Also camera footage and sound from my hidden microphones and cams, but no advance warning.
I was curious if anyone had seen any mention of Softpress closing anywhere other than small blogs or discussion lists. Usually this kind of thing generates some media attention.

Yeah, the affect that it will have on each of the users of the Softpress
tools now that we will no longer have them will be something to go through.
I remember finally starting to get the hang of using Adobe GoLive after
using Page Mill. Then Adobe really screwed all that upgraded to the “new”
GoLive 9 and I really did not want to use any Adobe tools for a while after
that. (But I can not go without Photoshop and Acrobat).
There were so many Mac users trying to figure out what to do back then. I
am a member of the CoMUG and it was discussed there as well. Some went to
RapidWeaver, some to other tools like Joomla! and Drupal and shudder, WP. I
have/had RW and just can not work from a template. I need a blank page to
start with.
Now we all have to again find another good web editing tool after we have
gotten quite comfortable to the tool/s we were using and continuing
learning how to use better. I have the Adobe Creative Cloud and have had it
for about two years now. But for a web editing tool, I don’t want to have
to depend on a subscription tool. However there are tools and tricks via
Adobe I want to incorporate into my web working.
My main gig/thing on the internet though is organic SEO and that does not
really take any software or coding whatsoever. That takes a lot of learning
of the client’s business and creative planning and plotting. It is far
easier for me to make a website be in the first page of search results than
it is to make the site itself.

No, not yet. I am going to wait a bit before looking at anything too seriously at the moment because I am working on a couple projects that I have to get done soon with Freeway and then I will be trying to figure out what to do. I also have a full free one-month trail of the newest version of Hype to try out too.
With Hype though, I think that might be more of a tool to make cool things and then bring into another more Mac-like web editor. IDK, trying to learn and figure it all out somehow.

In other media there were some notices of Softpress’ ending, but in my
opinion outside the Freeway community and its users there was not a lot of
knowlegde about Freeway…

Me too. I searched a bit on Twitter and w/ Google, but didn’t find much. I was kinda surprised there wasn’t more buzz about it. Anyone else see anything?

I didn’t get any email notification either - but my web design days were mostly behind me anyway. However I really appreciated Freeway as a tool and the Freeway Community in which I used to participate some years back - and see a few old-timers here at the ‘sort of wake’.
Happy Trails!

Being in a benighted situation where I am not allowed to hire a staff (which would radically increase revenues) and where we put in precisely 50 hour week, I don’t have time to become a web guru. Because of this, Freeway was a godsend - at least until responsive hit the stage. FW’s approach to responsive was is not as good as it might have been and, like everyone else, I waited to see if they would nail it in 7, but that didn’t happen.
If there is anyone out there – such as Affinity – is up to the challenge of creating a powerful, modern, and user-friendly web app, I would be first in line to buy it.

Affinity (or Serif.com) have already been doing a “Freeway like” app for years. It’s for PC called WebPlus…

I, too, never received a message. I was just getting ready to upgrade for an Intel machine (G5 works great, but not Intel of course - is this even still possible??) and have used FW since FW3 and before that it was called something else (Express was, anyway). Seems odd that, having used the same email address for decades, with numerous CS and TS contacts, no word. Surprising, even.
It is indeed sad. I suppose the only alternative is Dreamweaver, which I never liked and don’t even know if it’s still available or even current.
Richard, if you read this - it was good while it lasted. Thank you and the team. - Rick Viehdorfer

No email here either - though I always receive the marketing emails and have on occasion even emailed personally with Joe and others at Softpress.
It’s totally depressing but I suppose the writing has been on the wall for a very long time - since responsive design came into being, The UI became more and more obtuse for anyone not familiar with the program to even just get a simple responsive site up and running. Even dropping one’s own content into templates became messy.
But in fairness, for those up to speed FW was an excellent tool - and this list has been one of the most helpful group of people I’ve ever seen - very difficult to replace.
I bought every update, many templates (even though I didn’t use them - just to play with them), bought Exhibeo 1 & 2 - which I really hope will reincarnate from the ashes… maybe under a new owner.
