[Pro] Exhibio for mobiles

Hello Panel! I have asked this question before and not received any reply. I would be pleased to receive some response, even if it is negative!

There is a lot of movement recently to having websites suitable for use on mobiles. I now have 113 websites, and would really find it impossible to recreate them all! But I want to ask about my photographic Exhibio sites. The photos resize for different viewing devices, but can I get the text to resize easily? So, for computer I find 16 px title and 14 px text is fine, but this is far too small for mobiles. Also the arrow controls are too small for mobiles. Is there an easy fix to this?

With thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

The problem is that your pages aren’t responsive, they’re just being scaled by the mobile device to fit within the available space. This is why the text and the buttons appear much smaller than they do at desktop sizes.

The way to fix this (on this page for example: http://paulscottinfo.ipage.com/nz/cathedrals/hamilton/stpeters/tn.html) would be to create a new breakpoint at 960px wide (the fixed width of your page) using the Edit>Media Types menu, switch to that breakpoint by selecting it from the tabs along the top of the page and making your page 768px wide, and all the items to fit within it.

By doing this the content will fit within a window that’s between 768px (a pretty standard tablet width) and 960px. Do the same for the other breakpoints (you shouldn’t need to create new ones), so on the 768 breakpoint, make the page and content fit within 480px, and the 480px one fit within 320px.

Now your page will always fit within a screen of any size without being scaled, making your text and buttons look like you’re expecting them to.

Hope this helps!
Joe

Many thanks Joe. I’m just delighted to receive a response. I will try your suggestions when I get the opportunity, and probably ask for further clarification then!!!
Cheers,
Paul

Particularly for Joe … . I followed your good suggestions which resulted in the following fairly pleasing result

http://paulscott.info/nz/wanganui/stmarys2/

A couple of queries …
• On the smallest phone setting, the image on page1 gets squashed up. Can I fix this?

• With the ‘pass through’ graphics I find I have to set the size (in Photoshop) exactly twice the size I require. I can live with this, but it seems a bit strange!

Thanks again, Paul

OK, all problems resolved. However the exact placing and sizing of pass-through graphics seems to be rather hit and miss!!

Sorry this thread has migrated!!

Cheers,
Paul
