Just trying to migrate an old site (FW5.5) that uses the great fading slideshow action to 7. Just doesn’t work… any clues?
I skipped updating this site with 6 but wanted to go 7 for the adaptive options, which also seem rather random and buggy when updating from previous versions, but I digress.

If it’s just a simple fading slideshow then you can use the Target Show/Hide Layer Action applied to a stack of images and the Sequence Timer Action applied to the page to switch between them all. The Ultimate Fade-in Slideshow on which this is based has been updated and now uses jQuery.
As a result if the action was rewritten for FW7 you would be introducing another JS library and the potential conflicts that brings.
You could hand code your page to include the revised version of the script but that would actually be more work than using Target Show/Hide in conjunction with Sequence Timer.
Another alternative is Walter’s revised NewsCycle action (available at the 'forge) but it would also require you to rebuild/redo your pages.
Can we see how you have implemented FS into your current site and then we might be able to offer other alternatives.

Hi…just ran into the problem with updating a site that uses fading slideshow. Now that I am using version 7, the slideshow won’t show up at all online. It does work, however, in the FW preview. Does this mean that for every site I have built that uses the fading slideshow action, I can NEVER update without redoing every fading slideshow?? Please tell me I have misunderstood…

Fading Slideshow was written in 2007 for FW4 - you cant honestly expect an action that has not been updated in 7 years to work with the 2014 version of FW.
Time for a change.

Well it is a royal pain in the behind to find out about it this way…and then have to redo a bunch of sites because the action is now incompatible. How should Freeway users know about this type of thing? The action worked fine up to now…perhaps a bit of notice would have been nice. That’s all…I could have updated those sites in the older version if I would have known. So…that said…can a site that has been updated in 7 be reopened and saved again in an older version and have the action work again?

When you open a site that was created in an older version of FW in a newer version then FW will save a copy of the old version.
It will be called something like yoursite[FW5].freeway

It is a short term solution. You would be as well to bite the bullet and prepare an alternative.
However, using the legacy site(s) will buy you some time.
