[Pro] Fancy Zoom

Can anyone look at this and tell me what I’ve done wrong?

The picture loads, so the target works, but the zoom does not.

I’ve put in the html before head, and put the extended in. Still will not work.

Any help is welcomed.

Here’s the site. Sorry, forgot it in the last post. It’s late and I’ve been up…working…

Safari’s Web Inspector is showing a Syntax Error/Parse error for both the references to the 2 scripts - don’t know exactly what that means. (Maybe put in full path?) Also should there not be an ID reference in the onLoad

<body id="whatever" [...] onload="setupZoom()">
<script><script src="/FancyZoomScrip......avascript"></script>

The parse/syntax error is (I think) caused by the fact that you have a script tag instead of script src

Should it not be

<script src="/js-global/FancyZoom.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Thanks for the reply. I’m not understanding because I don’t know what you mean by the above.

Here are the instructions and here is what I have done to try to achieve the Fancy Zoom effect.

The instructions say to put this:

in the head of the page.

Here’s what I did:

Page / html markup

and in the box I pasted the above text and in the pull down menu at the bottom chose before

The instructions say this:

Add onload=“setupZoom()” inside your page’s existing tag. For example:

Here’s what I did:

Page/ Extended /

and in the box I chose NEW

and in the name I typed onload
and in the value I typed setupZoom()

I have mastered lightbox, so I understand that you have to put a link on the thumbnail picture linking to the path on the server. This must be working, because when I click my thumbnail, it brings up the larger picture. I know that it’s finding the link because this is happening. I have also uploaded two folders with js and images inside my directory folder on the server that corresponds to the site.

Have I followed the instructions properly and put the information in the right place within Freeway?

The site is www.webandsound1.info

Thanks,

Rich

Here’s what I did:

Page/ Extended / and in the box I chose NEW

That is where you are going wrong NOT page extended.

Instead Item>Extended - Item being the small pic that links to the zoom effect

Here’s one I have just done http://www.deltadzine.net/test/fancyzoom.html

Look at the source

Dave,

I took the onload off the extended page, and under item extended; I chose the first tab, image and put
onload for the name and for the value setupZoom()

It didn’t make a difference. The load box comes up in the middle and just spins, no zoom, no picture load.

Still can’t get it to work.

Any other ideas. Thanks,

Rich

Dave,

Thanks to you post I was able to decipher what I was doing wrong. I studied your source code, trying to see the differences between yours and mine.

I had been putting the link to the images with just a
/imagaes/cats.jpg (for instance) assuming that the program and script would assume the rest.

I was leaving out the complete link of:

http://www.webandsound1.info/images/cats.JPG

NOW, with the entire path for the link I am able to zoom just fine.

Thanks so much for your time and assistance. Your help enabled me to see the errors and correct my problem.

THANKS THANKS THANKS

Your fancy zoom, click on the picture of the cats, works for me.

The line of text link is referring to some picture on your computer
“localhost” not your web site.

P.S. that looks like my Pioneer Tape Deck in your picture of Polie and
Sammy.

LLE,

Yep, it is a Pioneer Tape Deck. My primary occupation is music, with the web designing being an entirely new venture for me.

I worked at a music store in 1980 and we had Bob Seger’s album (the one with “Fire Lake”) recorded onto this reel-to-reel which has an auto return feature on it. Hours and hours we played that reel. It brings a fond memory to me when I hear one of those songs on the radio and I think of those days.

Anyway, I couldn’t afford to buy the Pioneer in 1980…but in the late 80s, I came across this one in an estate sale and I just had to have it. I still have it, but I think I’ve only used it once in the last three years. (all digital now). I just had to keep it around…

By the way, I fixed the ‘melvin’ picture link. When I originally was testing it I was using the MAMP system on my own computer and had the link set to go to my own server, it’s now fixed.

Thanks for checking it out. Does your Pioneer deck still work?

Heh. A relative link might work, but that depends entirely on where
within the site structure everything is happening and where the
images folder is in relation to the page and script that needs it.

Keith,

At the risk of showing my ignorance…a relative link being
rel=

But where do I put this? Do I set the link as extended and then put it in there?

Rich

a relative link being rel=

No, not at all. A relative link is just a link, but one that is
relative to where the page is and where the destination is. If you’re
at the top level of a site and you want a link to a page called
“now.html” that’s one level down in a folder called “test”, a
relative link would be “test/now.html”. That works relative to where
you are. If you take the page that has that link and you put it into
the “test” folder, that link won’t work. It says “look for a folder
called ‘test’, and in there you’ll find a file called ‘now.html’.”
But you’re already IN that folder, so the link can’t find a folder of
that name where you are. Instead, the link would be just “now.html”.

But where do I put this? Do I set the link as extended and then put
it in there?

Nooo, nonono.
For all normal linking requirements you just use Freeway’s normal
linking proceses. Everything is then managed for you, life is sweet.

For situations where you are actually juggling markup code for one
reason or another, just know where the code will be in your site and
where the things are that you’re referring to. Sometimes this can be
a little tricky, such as when a page is in one place but the script
that runs is nested in another folder and THAT is the relative
location.

Thanks for checking it out. Does your Pioneer deck still work?

Rich

Rich,

My deck is sitting about 15 feet from me now on a desk with a dual
cassette ONKYO tape deck sitting on top of it , and an epson printer
sitting on top of that. I got the Pioneer back in the 1980’s to copy/
backup my sisters large collection of 45’s. As you mentioned, it has
an auto reverse feature so you can record/play both ways. I believe I
got about 3 hours of 45’s on each tape. I’ve got 4 tapes of 45’s and a
few other tapes. In the 90’s I converted the tapes to digital and put
the music on CD’s. Anyway, the last time I tried it, it still worked
fine. One of my problems it that once I buy something, I rarely ever
get rid of it. I still have my Mac Classic with all the signatures
molded into the inside of the case.

One other thing to consider Rich is file naming.

It is a good habit to get into to name any images etc that you are going to use online without any spaces in them. FW does a great job of replacing spaces with %20 - as in R.%20Jackson%20&%20M.%20Bailey.jpg - but not all systems are as forgiving. Instead use underscores, hyphens etc

Actually, as long as you import images the normal way Freeway will
automatically collapse filenames down to eliminate any spaces. (And
hyphens too, for that matter.) The only time you’ll ever see Freeway
use those %20 things are when you’ve imported an image as
pass-through, which tells Freeway it is to handle it without changing
a single thing.

And, frankly, the number of times I’ve needed to use pass-through
images in the last few years I can count on the fingers of one hand.
That feature is there when needed, BUT it is NOT something I would
recommend for casual use at all.

Yes, pass-through can be useful. But no, I don’t think this feature
should be used until you have a specific reason for it and know that
the normal process isn’t better.

LLE,

I can just imagine what’s on those 45s. My mom saved some that I had back in the 70s. When she sold her place on the farm recently to move to town, she gave me my Partridge Family singles.

Ahh… to be a kid again…only if I know what I know now.

Good news…Fancy Zoom is working…lightbox is working, and lightbox is working even in WEB YEP…I may actually get the hang of this thing some day !

But, I couldn’t use the most recent version of lightbox…it wouldn’t work…I had to go back a version.
Couldn’t figure out why, I just went back a version and all worked.

Hang on to that Pioneer Deck, I probably will hold on to mine…the last time I used it was to transfer a wedding ceremony that had been recorded back in the 50s or 60s for an anniversary celebration.

Thanks for all the help.

I liked the Partridge Family…

David Cassidy could sing…and it was the height of the Bubble Gum Era. It rated up there with the Archies, Sugar, Sugar
