[Pro] Favicon not showing

I’m using Freeway Pro 4.4.2 and just added a favicon to my site using the Favicon action 1.4.1 from the FreewayActions site.

It doesn’t seem to be showing up in any browser. I’ve emptied caches and the like but to no avail. I’ve reached the outer limits of my technical competence with this now and would be grateful if someone could advise!

My website is http://www.michaeldennis.org/

Thanks in advance!

I found that if you just upload the favicon.ico with Transmit or whatever to the same folder as your index page (ie the root folder ) - and do not use the action - that browsers will load it anyway.

Thanks, Marcel. Having done that, it now seems to work in Firefox, but not Safari or Camino. Any thoughts?

Safari (and maybe other WebKit browsers) use a system cache to speed
up the view of favicons. When a site doesn’t have a custom favicon, I
have found that the cache ends up containing a copy of the generic
blue globe favicon, and it can take quite a determined effort to
update this. It’s probably a greedy cache issue, in other words. The
Mac OS X utility Onyx can delete these caches, or you can go
spelunking in your Library folder for them. Quit your browsers, then
locate ~/Library/Safari/icons and delete its contents (or search madly
for the name of your site, if you’re so inclined).

Now I wrote this from memory, because I’ve done this dance several
times before. But when I went looking for the icons folder in my own
machine to confirm what I wrote (Leopard/Safari 4) I found no such
folder any more and a mysterious WebpageIcons.db file instead. I have
no idea how you go about fixing that, there’s got to be a third-party
solution for this issue somewhere, I would imagine.

Michael I’ve just loaded a favicon.ico file to one of my sites that had no favicon before. It took about 3 page reloads for Safari and Camino to see it. Try and reload the page a few times or empty the cache in Safari
