Oh dear … a new problem!! The above rather weird address comes because I’m indexing a whole swag of websites. I was pleased to be able to attach the gold/black sun in square as a favicon by labelling the image favicon.ico, placing it in the root folder, and adding the two required lines of test in an HTML Markup in Freeway. Then I decided I wanted to use a different image (a coloured polyhedron). In theory I should be able to do this by simply replacing the favicon.ico image which I did. The old one still appears. I have restarted Safari and the computer, refreshed the page, checked the server files to ensure that the icon has been uploaded and that the old file is nowhere to be seen. No change. What should I do now? Does anyone have a suggestion?! Thanks, Paul
Safari hangs on to favicons in a special cache folder. There are some third-party cache tools you can use to flush these, or you can find them in your Library/Application Support folder somewhere (I think – it’s been a while since I went hunting). Rest assured that only people who have visited the site in Safari in the past are seeing the old favicon – any new visitors are seeing the one you intend.

you have to reset all safari settings (don’t know how the menu entry is called in english, you’ll find it under “Safari” in the menu below.)
After resetting Safari, you can see all your bookmarks without favicon. Loading the websites again, you’ll receive the correct favicon.
