[Pro] Film not visible in Firefox

Hi there,

The video I have at the top of the site plays perfectly in Safari and Chrome, but doesn’t appear in Firefox.

Is it a Freeway issue, or something to do with the JW Player I’m using?

Many thanks,

Mark Lawrence

Do you have a WebM or Ogg/Theora version of your video configured in the alternate Source section of the third tab of the Video Inspector? Firefox on the Mac cannot play back MP4 video due to (unfounded) patent concerns on the part of the developers of that browser. You work around it by creating a “fallback stack” of alternate formats when using HTML5 Video, similar to how you specify fonts in a font-family set. Some of the many players provide an ultimate fallback in the form of a Flash wrapper (since Flash can play MP4 video natively). This should be substituted automatically if you have installed your player kit correctly, similar to how specifying sans-serif at the end of your font-set will get you some font – whatever is handy. But the Firefox browser you are testing with may not have Flash installed, which could leave you in a position where you just won’t see anything.

Hi Dave / Walt,

Thank you for your replies.

Sorry the site wasn’t there, I was just putting a fresh version into the folder. Should be online now.

I think I seemed to have sorted it now though, I saw something in the html markup which wasn’t part of the jwplayer files I’d downloaded (and subsequently used in the Upload Extra Resources action). By retyping it as Resources/jwplayer.flash.swf (the right filename for the flash player in the folder) it seemed to do the trick.

Thank you both for time and input,

Mark Lawrence
