[Pro] Floating window...

Can anyone point me in the right direction about how this site was constructed (to always centre the main content vertically and horizontally):

http://www.softpress.com/galleries/site/766e428d1e232bbdd58664b41346196c/

I’ve played with CSS skelton templates, a “vertical alignment” action but still can’t replicate the function.

Cheers

No takers?

Is there a chance that the functionality I’m after wasn’t done in Freeway; just the content of the site with the centering done by external code?

You can centre vertically and horizontally in FW but it does depend on other factors being right to get it to work properly.

Try creating a page small enough to be able to be centred both horizontally and vertically in most browser windows 500px x 500px should do it.

Set page alignment to Center. Add the Page action ‘Vertical Alignment’ and set it to Centre.

Add some content to your page and try it in the browser.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this doesn’t work for me.

If I create a 500px x 500px page, give it an image as a background (not tiled) it works fine, the image stays centered when the browser window is resized.

If I then add a content box (HTML) things stop working; the background image behaves as expected but the content box never aligns with the background image and when the browser window is resized will only centre vertically - doesn’t move horizontally at all :frowning:

This is very frustrating as I would have expected this to be a fairly straightforward function in Freeway - obviously not! The fact that it can be done as per the “JB-living” site: http://www.softpress.com/galleries/site/766e428d1e232bbdd58664b41346196c/

makes it even more frustrating!

Thanks for trying, much appreciated

Have you used the Inspector palette to set the page alignment to
Center? This is what controls horizontal alignment of content within
a page layout.

How exactly are you adding your background image and can you post a link to a page on a server where we can see it? Preferably with your HTML code set to More Readable. File>Document Setup>Output (2nd Dropdown)

Sorry for the delay in replying - I’ve been trying to solve this on my own with the clues as given!

@thatkeith
The page is set to centre - that part is the only bit that works! It’s the content boxes I need to keep centred :frowning:

@DeltaDave
At the moment I’m adding 1 500px square image through the “background” pane of the inspector window (eventually I’d like to tile it).
Each content box, under “properties” has “Layer”, “Show” and “Publish” checked. Can’t find a “centre” option anywhere.

Here is a page on-line to show what the problem is;
http://www.xgraphica.net/testing/index.html
Site built using “HTML more readable”

I was hoping all the boxes would stay aligned as the browser window was resized as per the JB Living site mentioned above.

On-line it’s actually worse than I get using “preview in browser” option; using preview in browser, the content boxes at least keep pace vertically with my background box, just missing the horizontal component. On-line, the content boxes are locked to the top left.

Any help really appreciated!

Cheers

The problem with this approach you currently are using is the “background” is actually applied browser window and not the “page”.

So what you need to do is apply the graphic background to the “page”. You would do that by adding a graphic object that covers the entire Freeway layout, or alternatively inserting the graphic background into the “pagediv” by double clicking and “inserting” the graphic from the Insert menu. Graphic will stay centered to the “page”.

Chuckamuck

Not sure I follow you - the "background image IS the Freeway page (500px square website). The background image is applied without being tiled. If I tile it, it fills the screen.

The background is working, stays nicely centred on browser re-size. It’s the content (created boxes within the site) that aren’t staying centered (or moving at all).

Thanks for your input though, I’ll try the “pagedv” technique. Sorry if I’ve mis-understood your suggestion.

Ok. There is a basic confusion of what the background setting in the inspector pallete is for. When a graphic, or solid color, is applied here it is applied behind the page area that you see in your layout. Just add the graphic as an object to the page layout instead of through the inspector pallete.

Is this more like what you want http://www.deltadzine.net/test/xgraphica.html

You’re d’man!

Nice one. I’ve got client meetings most of today but I’ll have a look at the Freeway file when I get the chance.

Cheers, much appreciated - though I might have to get back to you if there are bits that I don’t understand :wink:
