[Pro] Freeway Collaboration

I have a situation where two designers are working on the same site in Freeway. I would like to be able to upload to a web server, then also be able to grab the content my partner has uploaded so my version of the site remains up to date.

I use dropbox for this. It sets up an area in the cloud and shared directories on a computer. You open and use the files from a directory and when you save them it makes sure that all copies of the files are updated everywhere. I also keeps a history of files if you decide you need an earlier version. and its free.

There’s one detail about your question that I’d like to address. The
only place where changes are really registered in Freeway is in the
Freeway file itself.

If your partner has uploaded changes, that’s great. But unless your
partner saves the Freeway document that he or she is working in, and
then sends you that updated document, you don’t actually have
those changes.

The files uploaded to the Web server are merely artifacts of the
publishing process. They have the same relationship to the Freeway
document as pieces of printed paper do to the Word document that you
used to print them. You can’t take those printed pieces of paper and
reconstitute the the parent Word file without a lot of effort and the
introduction of measurable error.

Likewise, unless you are really patient and motivated (say, your hard
disk crashed, along with your backups, and you have no other way to
get back your Freeway document) you can’t create or update a Freeway
document from the HTML pages it last published.

The other problem with working this way is to ensure that all images used by you both are also available to you both.

If you are working on a FW doc that actually lives in the cloud then so should referenced image files and other media otherwise you will get a ‘Resources not Found’ error.
