[Pro] Freeway development roadmap?

I know this will be a difficult question, but I’d appreciate some sense of what major features will be incorporated in the next version.

Recently, I’ve been looking at Webflow and Macaw. These responsive design software products are progressing nicely, but still need a lot of maturing before becoming viable Freeway replacements for the non-coder; Macaw isn’t even released yet.

Is there someone from Softpress who could comment? And, I don’t believe that providing such information would create a competitive disadvantage.

Thanks.

I suspect SP might disagree. I too would appreciate a small degree of transparency but they - for better or worse - have a reputation for being very tight-lipped with details of FW’s direction. Frustrating at times, yes, but I can also understand why they play it close to the vest.

I couldn’t agree more, as I’ve said the same for an unimaginable number of
years. There is a much smarter way to do this whole thing, yet they remain
utterly resistant and seemingly uncaring about the message that sends.

Todd, sadly I disagree - anyone counting cards knows exactly the hand they
are holding… and trust me it is not a winning one. But they could increase
the odds in their favor (at least I could, they may not be able to) by
openly defining the near-future of the app, their goals, and how it would
benefit users. In other words, if they had a reasonable and worthy vision
for Freeway Pro. FWP is no killer app - never was and never will be. But it
fits on my tool-belt, and as long as it’s beneficial to my workflow, it
stays there.

So for others trying to interpret their silence, let me say that my take is
they have no problem with you trying other apps and abandoning theirs. If
they wanted to keep you, they would have said so and shared some vision
they have for the future of this product they want to include you in.

Or maybe they just suck at this whole marketing, product-building thing…
constipated in their efforts by lawyers and conservative business partners
who can only pinch pennies, instead of making them work harder.

I’m simply saying I can understand their choice, not that I agree with or think it’s the best choice as a consumer. I think some transparency would benefit everyone, not just because it’s what I and others want.

Lol, and I’m just saying that I DON’T understand their choice… when that
thing that helped you now hurts you, you must let it go. I know that
resonates.

Please don’t take my disagreement as disapproval… because I know you
recognize Softpress needs an ah-ha moment, a Think Different from the
inside-out moment… a real Leap of Faith, Get off your Laurels, Keep it
Relevant kind of moment.

Anything but Stay the Course.

Oh, I didn’t think it was disapproval at all. I agree with you.

Yeah, that elusive “ah-ha” moment. I think it’s on its way, and its name is Macaw.

Yeah, Macaw will likely do well if it’s ever released. But they too have been pretty quiet lately.

There are plenty of folk out there who have Macaw (now at 0.7.1) - it is not production ready yet but very useable.

Actually I have Macaw… it’s pretty darn good but it will be a massive jump or headache for those who think its like freeway but more modern. Initially it looks like it does the same thing but it is actually quite a different beast.

For starters you cant be sloppy about naming… freeway holds your hand with that and fills in the gaps. At the moment there is no open API to create add on’s, where by freeway has hundreds of actions, Plus there is very limited table functionality (from what I can see its none) so designing and construction for emails is going to be quite limited.

Where its really cool and light years ahead is in its fluid layout construction, its css output and in its general interface presentation… which does feel years ahead of freeway…

Anyway thought I would chuck in bit of info for the inevitable comparison of Macaw vs Freeway… but keep in mind Macaw isn’t the finish product yet!! and Freeway has been going since the 90’s so has had a long time to mature
