[Pro] FreeWay5 + WebYep

Hello. I´ve heard about using FreeWay Pro 5 with WebYep to make easily editable websites. Is it possible? In Macintosh? I’ve read in webYep website that is needed an extension for DreamWeaver, but I dont use DreamWeaver…

Another thing I’ve read is that yo need to purchase a license for a concrete domain. In this way, you cant make a trial web… In other words if I make a web www.mywebsite.com, and I purchase the license for that web, every change I make is public, or can I have mywebsite.com is available for purchase - Sedo.com for testing the results before I upload the wed in the public domain?

And another question: can you insert videos? In wich format (link from youtube, flv, qtime…)?

And as you have noticed, my english is not so good… Is any tutorial or guide in Spanish?

Thank a lot. Hope your answers… I just want start working on my new website !!

Hi
Yes very possible. Here are three websites designed and built in Freeway
5 Pro with WebYep as the content management system:
www.victimsupportjersey.co.uk
www.cornthwaiteandco.com
www.ghcjersey.com

You can test without going public. Easiest way is to use a MAMP
installation on your Mac (Mamp is free-you don’t need the Mamp Pro
version) and use http://localhost/mywebsite instead of www.mywebsite. Or
you can use www.mywebsite/test and just change the text in the
webyep-system/data/documents file to show the correct path for the live
site (you may need help here-there is stuff on the WebYep site or let me
know if you get in difficulties.
WebYep does not have a Video upload module bt it is a very good cms.
The people who make WebYep are very helpful too.

Thanks for your quick answer.

Im reading more, and searching http://danjasker.com and http://www.max-izzat.co.uk but I have not clear what they do exactly. People says in forum that is so easy with Max actions, but what is this? I think I cant catch the sense because of my english… Is any easy explanation about that, please? Im going to buy freeway and webyep tomorrow, but Im not sure if I need to buy max Action for webyep or not…

Concerning videos, my idea is: I have 4 videos, and everyweek I want to show one of them in the main page. The fith week Ill show the 1st video agin. So I wolud like to have them in my website uploaded and just need to change a link. Is it possible?

Thanks again. Rakeljuice

Ive looked at the three examples you gave me, Martin, and I supossed youve made them. In this case Im with you in Its not easy to play jazz… I have made lots of websites using flash, they are fantastic, but it takes time, and cant be cheap, and the user cant change it (he needs me). About html, Ive some acknowledge but not in php where Im so basic. Ive tried iWeb (just a few months ago I bought a Mac, so it was new for me), and really like the easy it is… but I need to make more complete websites, and they must be changed by user, so I supposed FreeWay+ WebYep is my solution at this moment.

I admit any personal opinion.

Thanks again. Rakeljuice.

PS. And i need a solution for the vides, please… any place to search… (im not waing for “The Solution”, just a Hint…)

You can certainly run a test site anywhere on your server without buying a license - it is up to you whether or not the public can get access.

If you put it in a Password Protected Directory then only those with the username and password can see it.

The point of Max’s actions is to make it easy and to remove the need for you to learn any PHP - the actions do all that for you.

You can change/create links to your Video files easily. Just use your FTP app to get them up onto your server and then make the links to point to them.

Martin,

I may be useing something like WebYep, so I was intereasted in your sites. What exactly is the content being managed by WebYep - nothing was obviouly a ‘blog’…

Thanks

Frank
Web yep is not blogging software, it is aimed at enabling site owners to
update their content without referring back to me as the designer all
the time… So, eg, Corntwaiteandco.com:
All information in heade is static and fixed (could have been made
editable but client did not need it editable-it won’t change.)
Menu at left hand side, and all text in main body: editable using
webyep. Images and text can be uploaded and formatted using the in built
editor (I am using TinyMCE on that site) Also the downloadable documents
are managed via webyep by the client.

Hope that makes sense to answer your question.

Hi
To make php sites in Freeway and using WebYep you will not need any php
knowledge-or html either. That is the huge advantage of Freeway. It does
the work for you.

Hi Rakeljuice
As there seems to be some confusion for you i some areas, I thought an
overal explanation might help:

Yes-you will need the actions that Max makes to build sites that use
WebYep in Freeway. Please let me explain.
If you are going to do everything to change the website yourself, then
you do not need webyep or max’s actions. You can do everything in
Freeway using Freeway to make changes and uploading via ftp.
If someone ele will be using the site (who does not know how to edit a
web page using an FTP program) then WebYep is a very good solution.
Freeway Pro is very very good indeed. It uses what are called ‘actions’
to enable websites to do different things. It comes with many actions
already installed, and others are available as ‘add-ons’-you can get
some add-ons (quite a lot in fact) for free. Others you buy. Max makes
some that enable WebYep to be used. Max is a very nice and helpful man
and his actions are available from his website (his webyep actions are
bought, not free, but the price is very good, and they all come in one
set). There is a place where almost all Freeway actions are held,
www.actionsforge.com. You can find links to download lots of things
there (including a link to Max’s website to buy his actions for WebYep.)
Whenever I have emailed Max he has always been amazingly helpful and
kind. Also the staff at Softpress (who make Freeway) are fantastically
helpful.

Will your webyep site be on a Windows server or a Linux server? If
windows then there can be issues as Webyep and Windows servers do not
live together happily sometimes. I am running WebYep on a Windows server
but sometimes things had to be adjusted on the server. I may be able to
help if you have an issue with this.

WebYep does not currently have a video upload facility. If you will
change the link to the video (rather than your client having to do it)
then there should be no problem.

To use the actions for webyep, first buy the action suite from Max.
Install them.
Build a page in Freeway. If you want any part of the page to be a webyep
item (that means that you or your client will use webyep to change the
content,) just apply the action to the item on the page in Freeway. Set
the various parameters in the actions palette in Freeway and you are done.

Sorry if you already knew some of this.

Thanks a lot for answering. Ill buy then three of them (freeway, webyep and max action), install freeway and max action, and start to work. If I have any question, Ill came back!!

Ill keep on videos, perhaps making them as swf and linking to them, What about youtube? Because the idea is that the client should be able to change this item.

And DanJasker make actions aswell, isnt he?

Thanks again. Rakeljuice

Just a quick announcement
With the release of tye new webyep 1.7 system it is now possible to insert video into webyep
here are some of the release notes:

  • File managers for CKEditor and TinyMCE can now be used with WebYep.
This will enable users to upload arbitrary files to their server
and refer to them from the rich text editor. Detailed instructions
on where to get and how to install them can be found in the
    WebYep documentation (RichText reference).
  • Support for media embed plugins for CKEditor and TinyMCE has been
added. There is a button on the toolbar of the WYSIWYG editors
which opens a window where you can easily paste code from Vimeo or
    YouTube to embed online videos.

I will be finalising the new webyep-3.2 freeway action soon but it is being delayed because I have one other action that still needs to be tested (which allows the editing of Mals-e shopping cart items using webyep)

all the best max
