[Pro] FTP UPLOAD x2 site folders?!! possible?

Hi All,

I have an exisiting site on my server (site folder1)

I have just designed a new .index page for the entire site in a new FW doc (site folder2). This .index page is to replace the existing one, however the existing index page will now become a sub page & thus needs re-linking to the new .index page & updating.

Can these two folders co-exist in the same FTP space on my server?

Just afraid the resource folders etc may clash & therefore wanted to be sure of any hurdles before I do this.

Any help is much appreciated

Tend to say: Nooooo do not, because the site folder2 will overwrite/substitute the complete existing page (content of site folder1) with the result, that on your ftp there is only a single index.html left (the new one).

If it is “just” a new index, why to use a second freeway-doc?

I personally develop that new index under another name in my main doc (homenew.html or whatever) and if it is OK, rename this to index and rename the current index to newpage.html (probably the other way round

A site folder2 comes in handy if it is everything except index. I create manually a new folder on FTP named develop or test, and point in the FW upload dialog of site folder2 to that root (second entry /develop or /test) so all new stuff is in a subfolder to keep existing stuff clean).

I hope that I remember all of this correct and not pointing you into something that is not true - but as I said in entry: I tend to say …

Cheers

Thomas
