I have Freeway Pro and I really like using the software. However lately I don’t see any news from the company and its been a very long time since I saw any new tutorials. With Adobe Muse coming it seem that this is going to be a strong competitor.
So - before i build any more websites using Freeway Pro, could you please tell me a bit if the company still in business and when we can expect to get any news and updates?
When I have spoken to tech support, they tell me version 6 is under development, but won’t say when it will be out and what additions and updates will be included.
If the current software suits your needs and you can make money with it, why would this makes you nervous? With all the competition it would be strange if they gave away the plans for the next version. Just do your thing and be surprised with the new product or announcement.
Softpress is a very responsive company delivering a very robust and high quality product and until now they have never let me down. Deciding to stop building sites with the program while it still is very up to date sounds like a quite drastic measure to me.
Disagree - I have websites done in older software that does not receive any upgrade anymore. I.e I can’t upgrade my Mac to new OS system because the old program don’t support the new system.
Anyway - lets keep this thread relevant, so please avoid replies like “why” and so on - not really interested in replying to such.
Question is again:
Is Freeway Pro still active and will receive continuos upgrade in future or not?
I would bet you a large sum of money that it will continue to be developed and improved.
I would also wager that the current version will run on the next version of Mac OS X, or will be updated to do so minutes after a Gold release.
I have been using this application for 15 years, and have been pleasantly surprised by each major update, and heartened by the attention and care that Softpress lavish on Freeway and its users. The pattern I outline above has held true for me throughout those many years, and I hope to be using Freeway (or its descendant) in another 15.

I haven’t 15 years of use of this application, but I agree with you: …“have been pleasantly surprised by each major update, and heartened by the attention and care that Softpress lavish on Freeway and its users”…

I am also a long term user of FW and their update to provide Lion support was as quick as anyone’s.
To say there has been little in the way of updates is a bit disingenious as the SP team are quick to respond to OS updates.
Bear in mind that the FW team are tiny compared to the crew at Adobe behind the likes of Dreamweaver yet they respond as quickly.
I, like Walter, have no doubt that the current version will run on Mountain Lion or will be updated in time to do so. Maybe that is when we will see FW6?
But I have no worries on that score as I will not risk mission critical software not behaving on a new OS.
I am still on Snow Leopard and am happy to remain with it until I am absolutely confident in a new OS - and that applies to me using any software that earns me my bread and butter!
As to the lack of new Tutorials - I would rather they spent their time (which is limited) on getting us FW6.
I think the support that is provided here at FWT is worth as much as a whole pile of tutorials. You only need to ask how to do something and someone will go out of their way to help.
And no, I am not an SP employee nor am I paid in any way by them.
Good to hear all have faith they are still in business. I do know that other have been asking for more video tutorials though and that I about 6 month ago received a mail from their tech support that a major, pay for, update was just on the way. And - naturally that does make me nervous when other big players are around and Adobe Muse is on the way.
As for upgrades in the “low-tech” end I do hope for:
I’m only a newcomer and hopefully Freeway will be around for a long time.
It’s slightly amusing that I’m on the beta list for RealStudio and almost identical conversations occur regarding new versions. It used to frustrate me but now I just take the view that it will come when it comes, and hopefully it will have some killer new features.
As for the tutorials, I must say I really enjoy them (it’s always easier seeing rather than reading about how to implement something) but in some regard I think we are spoiled - there’s a lot of software that has no video tutorials at all and we seem to manage OK.
Most importantly though, Freeway has been quite a liberating experience for me - I recall looking at it several years ago but we just never clicked. This time around it’s been very natural and the thought of going back to Rapidweaver just seems nonsensical.
I still have a lot to learn and I do see a few little bugs in the interface but nothing that’s a dealbreaker. Walt and Dave should take a bow, their support is the equal to just about any other product around - to be honest I just assumed they were Softpress staff.
All CMS rely on server based software and I cannot see SP getting involved with that when there are plenty of solutions out there that work well with FW.
And the problem with developing action suites to suit a particular CMS boils down to “Which one do you choose?” That is why it is great when someone like Max does it for us.
