[Pro] FW5 & WebYep

Needed to give a client a degree of control on their site so used WebYep for the first time and found it pretty good.

On the “Meet Nina” page the schedule is a WebYep loop with a TinyMCE Rich Text field.

For the Press page http://realbabyfood.info/press2.php I had originally used the WebYep Menu item, but the client didn’t like the boring bulleted list & I agreed. So what I did was just use a Rich Text field which she (her assistant) can enter links with extra comments etc. There is a non public page with the Menu item on it where she can ‘Input’ text into the site. She just goes to the WebYep created article , gets the URL and posts that in the afore mentioned rich text field. It’s a kludge but it gave her the ability to input text AND have a menu/link page look like what she wanted.

Er the “Latest” box on the right is also WebYep.

Overall I enjoyed using it and the client likes it, especially the fact that you actually edit the text on the page rather than going to a another page to enter text into some backend…

One final thing. On The Babies page there is a nice SlideShowPro slide show with their thumbgrid add-on…

Nice site.

I have a potential job where the client wants to be able to edit a performance calendar page themselves. I just stumbled upon WebYep and it looks like it might do the trick.

Couple questions. I assume you can limit how much or how little you want to let the client be able to edit.

Also from looking at the WebYep page, the mention you access changes by clicking on the little lock button placed somewhere on your page. Where did you hide this exactly? or is it on the non-public page you mention?

Yes indeed Jeff. WebYep with Max’s actions gives you the freedom to determine how much you want the client to edit. I made many website already - for years now - with this combination and it is highly recommendable.

As Paul said you can adjust it. Imagine being able to place Freeway HTML elements anywhere on your page, with any styling and then deciding which if those you want to be user changeable. It’s pretty cool and is a BIG change from complex CMS that make you use templates etc.

Having said that, of course you lose some higher level functions that only using a database allows.

The lock button is hidden on my site. It’s on the page of course and if you know where to click the cursor changes. This means that casual malcontents aren’t tempted to try and crack the site. When you place the padlock icon on a page the action allows you to hide it or not. You can shrink the clickable area to about 8x8pixels so easy to hide in a corner. Another nice thing is that, once you’ve logged in, any part of the site that has user changeable text is then open for editing. This could be a downside because as far as I can tell you can only have one password/username per site. I may be wrong and will surely be corrected.

Great suite of actions and well worth the small investment.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it might be what I’m looking for.

If I have questions when I get a bit further along with this project and I may have some more questions.

Actually, as far as I know, it is possible to have different folders on your server with different webyeps and therefore options to have different passwords to enter. There is some thereads on the forum about this.

Thanks Paul for that info. I need to check if WebYep allows multiple installs on the same domain license.

That’s good to know.
