[Pro] FW6 and Actions

I’ve downloaded the trial of FW6 and notice that the menus include previously installed third party Actions. I presume this is normal.

However, is it possible to install a clean copy of FW6 so that I can install only the latest Actions (such as the rewritten Carousel) , or only the ones I now require?

Thank you.

Hi John, I think that when you install a new action it asks if you want to overwrite the older one, so the new one will always take precedence.

Thanks Trev, but that doesn’t quite answer my question: is it possible to install a clean copy of FW6 without third party actions?

Plus, if the newly installed FW6 is evidently pulling in Actions from the same folder as FW5, how can I ensure that when I use FW5 for some older sites (as I might wish to) that it continues to use the appropriate (oder) versions of the Action?

Sorry John, that’s beyond me!

I can tell yo that in Snow Leopard, actions are kept in
Home folder>Library>Application Support>Freeway Pro (for v6) or Freeway 5 >Actions>General

I think the new install copied the actions across to the new v6 folder. I’d suggest trying taking these out of this location (copy to your desktop so you can put them back if needs be.)

I’ve not tried this so don’t blame me if you get errors…!

Hi John,

Previous versions of Freeway left the Actions directory well alone and we relied on the user to move what they wanted. Since the Library directory is now hidden and due to the level of support the previous versions generated, we took the decision to move everything across this time. If you would like a clean start then you’ll need to go into the Applications Support directory and delete the Actions directory (though based on the Chinese character directory mentioned in your other thread, I imagine you’re already doing this).

Regards,

Joe

Right, that makes sense. But to clarify:

  1. If I want a clean copy of FW6 then temporarily (at least) delete the old FW5 Actions folder before installing FW6;

  2. Then if I want to continue using FW5 for some sites along with the old Actions, move the temporarily deleted Actions back?

Of course I shall have to remember this maneuver whenever I upgrade again.

No, just delete the Actions from within the FW 6 Actions folder (named Freeway Pro, in your library folder or the system library folder) after installation. That’s exactly the same as a new install in the absence of any previously-installed copy of Freeway.

You will have all of the bundled Actions and none of the third-party Actions.

Okay Walter, thanks. I was thinking I would get the latest third-party Actions with the DL, so if not, your method is obviously a far simpler way of achieving the same thing.
