[Pro] Go Daddy

I am considering “Go Daddy” to host my small business site. They list two OS options: Linux and Windows.

Will I be able to use them?

Yes. Even with a Mac! I have sites on GD, but am moving away as I really don’t like their twisted interface and sleazy ads/promo goo. New host I’ve started playing with is FatCow. I’ve had some tiny occasional blips I’m not happy with but they are thus far quite good and very responsive - and actually working hard to excel. Several searches for deals and finding the right one puts them in the best price per value range as well.

Hi John

There have been a number of issues posted here about problems with GoDaddy hosting especially when it comes to form implementation.

Personally I do use them for registration etc but choose to host elsewhere, and there are certainly at least 2 fellow Freewayers here that offer inexpensive, Freeway friendly and Mac friendly hosting.

David at http://www.ineedwebhosting.co.uk and James at http://www.have-host.com both offer good single and multi-site packages.

But when you do choose, no matter the provider, I would always recommend the Linux/Unix option!

David

Totally agree with that. I recently tried http://www.greengeeks.com/ so far so good.

Cheers, Marcel

Yeah, but on the flip-side GoDaddy has great prices and great features in their hosting packages. A lot of things I couldn’t get working on others hosts, worked great on GoDaddy hosting. The up-time has been great and sure the cPanel interface stinks but how often are you in there once you get things setup.

I also think the support is great if you have trouble, sure they up sell like crazy, but they get things working. I’ve been content with them.
