Ok after a wee bit of research I realise that those nice people at google still allow the creation of the older version of the tracking code so the action is still good to use.
The old tracking code can be generated from within the google analytics property of the relevant account.
If anyone needs insight on this then just so you know there is another solution which allows the use of the google analytics action with the legacy code.
