I ma putting together a new site and the client wants to be able to show his users his sailing route.
He has a private boat and would like to use google maps to show his position - he will have limited internet access which is ok, so would like a marker to be displayed when he can.
Has anyone used Google Maps like this? Or another method where he can plot via an iPhone / iPad or PC whilst on route?

I’ve used GPS devices that will output a trail and a timestamp after you’ve completed a trip which you can then marry up to geotag photos or plot on a map to show your route etc. If your client wants to do this in real time then maybe a service like this would be better where the location is fed to the map at regular intervals; http://sQuidd.io/vessel_tracker
