[Pro] Graphic images and Link to file missing

I am using Freeway Pro 6.1.2
I added text and graphics to pages that I had already built and published in Freeway. I also added a Graphic link to file.
I saved in Freeway, then I used File>Publish Site
I used Transmit to Sync.
Then when I went to check the website in the browser, the graphics show only as the file name - no images. All the text is there and new links are working. For the pages where I added a ‘Graphic Link to file’ - If I click on the link on the website it comes up with “Not Found”
I believe I am doing every thing as I normally do but this time I have these problems???
Can anyone explain what I have done wrong?
Thanks

I used Transmit to Sync.

Any particular reason why you are not uploading with FW’s built in feature.

It is a common issue that not all files are uploaded if you are not sure what has changed in your Resources folder.

A link to your site would help us understand your issue better.

From your description, it sounds like you did nothing wrong. So, what could
do this?

Have you verified the images were uploaded to the Resources folder on your
server when you used Transmit?

Is your server one of those what caches images and you need to wait for the
image cache to update?

It’s always nice if you share the url for your problem page - I don’t know
that it would help with this issue, but it helps sometimes.

Amy - you told us back in July 2012

I will upload from Freeway from now on!

What has changed?

Hi David,

In the past (Dec 2013), I had problems with uploading thru freeway because there was so much info. The support guys at softpress suggested Cyberduck or Transmit. If I understand it correctly, it just up loads the items with a new date stamp rather than the whole site.

A link to the site is:
www.amymittentutorials.com
The website is for needlework tutorials with tons of photographs. Customers purchase the tutorials and are given usernames and passwords to enter. I have used SiteLok for this. Most of the pages are .php and I insert some markup before the http.
I have just given you a username and password to enter the tutorial with problem pages. If you scroll to the bottom of the Welcome page, you will see a faint white box (this is how I do it until the paticular Tutorial starts) Click on the white box and use the username David and password PleaseHelp
this will get you to the problem pages: Lesson 7 , 7a and 7b
You can look and any of the lower numbered lessons to see the images loaded properly and the graphic link to file working (bottom of lesson 6)
Thanks,
Amy

Hi Ernie,
I checked the files on my server and the resources folder shows the date of my previous successful upload.
So how do I upload this info and how do I prevent this from happening again?
Thanks,
Amy

It’s still tricky for me to work out what is wrong, you are in the best
position to know if you uploaded everything to the right places. Because
you are not using Freeway’s built-in file transfer, I think we can rule out
a problem with Freeway.

One possible problem is Location. When your page is loaded by a browser,
the relative location of any graphic the page needs is how the browser
finds the graphic to display. Default FWP setting places graphics in a
Resources folder at the root level of your site structure…

<img url="Resources/graphic.jpg">

So if the browser can’t find the right Resources folder, or can’t find the
graphic name inside that folder, then the question has to be “why is that
graphic not where the browser expects it to be?”. This invokes a range of
reasons, like the file wasn’t uploaded, or the file was uploaded to the
wrong place, or the file was uploaded with the wrong name. Computers are
very fast, but far from smart. You have to watch them like a hawk.

Another possible problem is that your site is too complex - I don’t know if
it is or not, having not looked at your site. I’m just including this as a
possibility. Since you are the one with the most access to your server,
you’re the best to judge whether the url called for by the browser code FWP
has made has the requested file in the location it’s asking for.

Another thought on what could block the browser from getting the image is
if the image location is in a protected location - any script or server
setting which prevents users from dialing that location directly. Not that
I know this is the case, just exhausting ideas.

You are still in the best place to see what’s happening - the page code
will tell you the name and location of the expected graphic file. Then
checking your server at the expected location for that file name is the
best step for ruling out hard-to-detect complex options.

Hi Ernie,
I can see on my computer where freeway has saved everything in the resources file. I agree Freeway is not at fault. It just seems that Transmit isn’t uploading that resources file. I haven’t moved anything - just worked in freeway the way I normally do.

If you want to take a look at the site I put the url and user and password info in an earlier reply to Dave 11 Sep 2014, 12:57 am

Can I just try to upload directly from Freeway and then go back to using the transmit sync method?

I’m so afraid of messing things up with the rest of the site.
Thanks, Amy

As far as I can see all the missing images should be in http://www.amymittentutorials.com/Resources/

So I would be using Transmit (or similar) to look for these files in that folder

Missing - img9818.jpeg, img9819.jpeg, img9820.jpeg, img98212.jpeg, img9822.jpeg, img9823.jpeg all the way up to img9852.jpeg, - and that is just on 7

And report back

Here is what I have found:
-on my computer in: Tutorial Site files>Resources all the image files are all there.

-if I try to view with Transmit: Public_html>Resources it times out

-in the control panel of my server: Public_html>Resources I get a message “There is nothing here”

So how is anything showing on the website at all? I’m afraid I really don’t understand this stuff.

Thank you,
Amy

I think that you will probably have to put in a support request at your hosting company so that they can check this out.

You might also contact someone you trust with your username/password to your hosting account and see if they can see anything amiss.

Hi Dave,

I did contact my server and they suggested changing from a Common Resource Folder to Separate Resources folder. Once I changed that, it changed all the date stamps so Transmit uploaded the whole site. All seems to be good now.

I am confused because it still looks to me like all the resources are still all in one file. But it is working!

Thank You,
Amy

they suggested changing from a Common Resource Folder to Separate Resources folder.

This is the default setting.

If you use Separate Resource folders then each level of your site will have its own ie there will be one at mysite.com/Resources and also one at mysite.com/subfolder/Resources

There is a third option in FW - With HTML Files - but all that does is pile everything in together. Now while that may make things easier if you are checking to see what items have been changed it sure is untidy and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Once I changed that, it changed all the date stamps so Transmit uploaded
the whole site. All seems to be good now.

Maybe you should consider a different setting with Transmit - one that
forces the upload.

Or, did you try deleting the Resources folder on your local drive prior to
Publishing from FWP, as that will force FWP to regenerate everything.

Best,
