[Pro] hosting type

My first post here…so thanks in advance! My customer is setting up their web hosting account for the new website I’ve created for them and has asked whether it be for Linux or Microsoft. I’m not sure what to tell them. I’m so new to all of this and was proud to get the site built but now I’ve hit a wall in this matter. Advice is greatly appreciated!

Generally speaking, unless you have an overwhelming business reason to
use Windows as a Web server (say, for example, there’s some
proprietary software package that you must run on the server in order
to integrate the site with your inventory control system) you should
run screaming from Windows as a server OS. Windows hosting is usually
more expensive than Linux or Unix, and unless it is expertly
administered and patched daily, far less secure.

Thanks Walter! I’ll pass along the info to them and hopefully they’ll follow the advice. Really looking forward to becoming a part of this community and maybe someday I’ll be able to share some of MY knowledge, but right now it seems it will be quite awhile. Again, thank you!

secure.

But if the client has already selected Windows as the server option
don’t worry about it. For standard stuff it should be fine, and the
security is down to the host company to manage.
