[Pro] How do they do this

Ref the BBC site, not the version you can see in the UK it is available from outside the UK only

There is an article on Earth be curious etc…etc.etc

There is a scrolling window that only allows you to see part of the image as you scroll the main browser window up…

Looks very effective.

THX

Here you are - http://www.deltadesign.co/FW7Test/bbc.html

Down to a couple of factors

1 - careful image choice

2 - the right settings for your html container

Dave,

Thank you.

But i still do not understand… it is a background to a HTML container…Yes , but it is only visible via a scrollable window… how do you get that effect.???

Thx

The settings from the inspector panel really say it all.

Background image set at fixed position (doesn’t scroll with the page) and centred on the container.

The bg image has to be tall enough so that there is plenty of image overlap at the top and bottom. Like you were looking through a letterbox.

But you cant see any of the image that is outside the letterbox.

Morning Dave,

I understand the background marsupial image, it’s how to get the ‘scrolling letterbox” that I can’t seem to get my head around how it’s done. Is it just white boxes overlaid leaving the space?

Any pointers appreciated.

Dave,

I have the same issue how to get the scrolling “letter box”?

Thanks

the scrolling “letter box”?

The “letter box” is just an html container with the background image applied (see the settings pic)

The page is tall enough so that it scrolls.

In my example the page height is 2000px and there is an invisible graphic item at 500px off the bottom of the pasteboard that forces the scroll bar.

There are only three items on that page -

head - scroll instructions

marsupial-container which is just an html item with fixed height and width and

base - an empty graphic container off the bottom of the page to force the scroll as FW will only build a page as tall as the last item on it.

Aaaah! Gotcha.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking it was something with a ‘punch through’.

Good to know - I had been working on sorting this out recently myself!

Any explanation as to why the non-scrolling BG image disappears from Edit view in FW, yet shows up as intended in Preview - when TILE is set to anything other than “Both”?

Even if I use a super large graphic it is gone in Edit view no matter what alignment I try.
