[Pro] HTML boxes cut off

I’ve been driven to distraction on box layouts, just when I thought I’d “got it” clearly I haven’t! I apologise if a similar post turns up, my original seems to have disappeared between computer and forum.

Currently I have a sidebar in which I want to stack a number of boxes. No matter what I do the top ones were not rendering in a browser.

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, while setting up a new test for the benefit of this post, the problem spread!

Now it seems the tops of all the boxes are being chopped off. Before I got to this stage I had seriously considered just leaving a “sacrificial” box in the top of the column, but the answer must be very simple, and I am just too blind to see.

The graphic item on the left is a screen shot of the Freeway working page, the boxes are all labelled with their float and clear settings, all overflows are “visible”.

I am now going for a long walk, but would appreciate any ideas as to how I can fix this, whether they involve a change of hobby or not!

Thanks

Peter

I am seeing a real mix of Divs and Tables in your layout.

Thanks David, it seems to have grown a life of it’s own as I have attempted to trouble-shoot. That’s one of the problems in not knowing quite enough!

I have started from a clean sheet of paper and am re-building element by element.

I tried to dismantle it bit by bit, action by action to no avail.

I’ll report back when I am successful! (or not!)

Cheers,

Peter

I have over written the test above, and have advanced as follows:

I am trying to end up with a couple of buttons and a bit of text above a “sticker” box.

I thought it would be smart to keep everything as inline items, so that in the event that the sidebar was longer than the main text, the footer would remain under control, but am now (a day later) figuring that it would be smart just to lay them out in layered css boxes and to heck with any growing text!

I think I’ve also learned that the “sticker” action will conflict with Adsense if applied to an inline box! At least that’s what I think I’ve learned.

Is there a better way of achieving what I am trying to do?

The test page at
http://pdracer.net/testlayout.html

Still shows some bizarre behaviour in that the “as buttons” (which are all neatly lined in-line structures) become detached from their backgrounds, as does the background of the sidebar container!

The Freeway screenshot on the left is what’s supposed to be going on.

I must confess I am just lost!

I need a reference guide I think!

Cheers,

Peter

Once again I have to say thanks, and if that works, Wow!

One of the problems with being a non-power user is that every couple of years when it’s time to update the websites, I dust off Freeway and start the learning curve all over again.

First I search the web (here and FW knowledge base) to solve my problems, then I read the manual!

I wonder how many others have (incredibly stupidly) read the User Guide right up to the “what’s new” section, then stopped because …ahem… I really don’t care about what’s new do I!

Thanks so much David, the obvious is often staring one in the face!

Now for some RPL fun!

Cheers,

Peter
