[Pro] html email - help please?!

Hi
I’m making an html email to send out for a client. I’ve made the email here… http://www.hosiescott.com/aspinal
It’s incomplete at the mo… but wanted to figure it out first. As soon as I add the Remote Resources action the images disappear. Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
Much appreciated - Nick

Hello Nick. For making an email I do the following:

  • make the html page as I want to be shown in the email
  • configure the server to upload the page to the server, as you make with the websites
  • add the “create email” action page. It makes that the images get the absolute url.
  • upload the page
  • go to the page via browser, and copy the source code.
  • paste the source code into the mailing program you use

and thats it. I dont know if there is a better way, and if remote resources action works for this. This is the method I use and works perfectly for what I need.

Hoping be helpfull.

thanks so much for your reply. I’ve followed the above advice… new link… http://www.hosiescott.com/test

When I click ‘preview locally’ it works ok in freeway,
Then I go to ‘Yes, preview in Server’ and upload as usual all of the images have question marks and do not appear.

Do you know what I’m doing wrong?

Many thanks in advance

Interestingly I’ve just uploaded my email to my website without any actions applied to it… and then gone to File - Mail contents of this page - and it seems to work! Does this sound correct? Will it work across all platforms? Is is that a bit of a bodge!

So confusing.

forgive me, it’s not worked. I sent the artwork via safari, using ‘mail contents of this page’, straight to my hotmail, and it bombed. here’s a screendump of what I can see in hotmail

this is the artwork

if anyone see’s this and has any pointers then that would be super ace.

You need to make sure you enter the following into the Web Address field:

http://www.hosiescott.com/

Once you do that the images will start working when you select “Preview on server” in the Create Email Action.

update. blimey this is complex (for my little head).

i originally changed the upload details to match the page name of the email. but I think the info I read on the internet was old.

I’ve just gone back to ‘file’ and ‘upload’ and set the web address to ‘http://www.hosiescott.com/’ instead of the test page address on the end of that.

…and it almost works!

what’s not working is anything with the ‘layers’ clicked on doesn’t appear… so the html text i set in freeway has gone. see http://postimage.org/image/3rlp8s82j/
sorry for all these posts, but maybe it’ll help someone else in the future?!

Joe , i figured that out as I got your reply! you are all very kind for taking the time to read my ramblings. I really appreciate it. Hope I can help someone else one day.

I will have to tweak how i’m laying this out, as i’m guessing the ‘layers’ thing is a basic one to avoid. I can’t type html over an image.

I have to have a solid colour behind my text, basically.

Yeah, unfortunately layers are a bit of a no no in emails. Some of the email clients just don’t display them properly, so you’re better off keeping things simple and only using table based items (items that aren’t marked as layers, basically).
